Fresno Club restart

I have a dynamic and energetic go-getter working with me to re-establish Skal in the Fresno area. She is actively recruiting potential members and has commitments from the airport and CVB in addition to the list of about 20 that I have given her. I also have a commitment from Terry Selk of the Yosemite / Mariposa Visitor’s Bureau to assist with the launch of this club. After speaking with Jackie again yesterday about the name of the Club and meeting dates we have come up with the following:

  • Club will be called Skal International Central California – this will enable us to promote in a much wider geographic area than just Fresno
  • Meeting dates will be the 4th Tuesday of each month – moving in November and December to the 3rd Tuesday to avoid Thanksgiving and Christmas. This will also coincide with the meeting dates of San Jose who meets 4th Wednesday and Sacramento who meets 4th Thursday.
  • We are hoping to have a high energy and fun launch hopefully in October and have the Club up and running

Portland update

Had a very nice conversation with Stephanie Warrington / VP of SI Portland. I wanted to get her take on what’s going on with the Club and what the reasons are that they are not actively engaging with Skal USA. She said there was a variety of reasons – they have had the same board for pretty much the last 6 years. Their President has been Beth Levich for at least 6 years running. Beth is very busy and also very active in Rotary. She does not seem to have time or interest to do anything but run the monthly meetings – no interest in fundraising or a membership drive. She did say that they get 18-20 members per meeting which was quite interesting since they only have 18 members according to the SI website. I also mentioned the NCM and she said Beth put it out to see if anyone would attend and no one was interested. When I told her that Portland was the only club that did not register someone she volunteered and said she would attend. I told her they need to shake up the board and get some new blood in there – she mentioned a younger member who works at the Radisson as a good potential candidate to move in and replace Beth as President. I will work with Toni and see what we can do together to get this Club moving in the right direction. I will plan a sales trip in the Fall around one of their meetings and attend on behalf of Skal USA as Membership Director.
