Life Project: Economics (Fall 2016)
The Life Project for Economics is designed to give students a small sampling of what “life may look like” when they enter the world of the working class and begin living on their own.
The students will:
- Research and choose a career path (Including educational requirements and or training needed for the profession)
- Provide a detailed paycheck stub
- Purchase or rent a home/apartment
- Purchase a vehicle
- Provide a detailed grocery shopping list
- Develop a Monthly Budget
- Research and Choose a Career Path(100 points)
- Student will type a minimum two-page, double-spaced paper (12 point font-Calibri or Times New Roman/margins set at 1”) detailing their chosen career path.
- Items to include:
- Education and or training received (Where and for how long?)
- Internships if applicable
- *Details describing your chosen career (What do you do at work?)*
- Student will complete the form “Your Paycheck Results” (20 points)
- Student will provide the annual gross pay for their chosen profession, as well as showing withholdings such as Social Security and Medicare.
- Student will provide their net pay after deductions are taken out.
- Student will also show pay frequency and filing status.
- Purchase or rent a home/apartment (20 points)
- Student will research and locate a home or apartment to purchase or rent.
- Student will attach a copy of a brochure/hand out that provides a picture of the dwelling and the monthly payment.
- Student will research the average cost for utilities that will be included on their Budget Worksheet.
- Purchase a vehicle (20 points)
- Student will research and purchase a vehicle.
- Student will complete the form “Vehicle Purchase Worksheet”.
- Student will attach a picture of the vehicle with list price.
- Provide a detailed grocery shopping list (50 points)
- Student will choose a grocery store from which to shop from.
- Student will complete the form, “Life Project Grocery List”, which will provide details and the total amount spent on groceries
- Develop a Monthly Budget (40 points)
- Student will research and develop a monthly budget to follow.
- Student will complete the form, “Budget Worksheet”, which details all of their expenditures for a single month.
***Life Project is due on Friday, December the 9th.
***Life Project is worth 250 points

***Student will place their completed project in an 8 x 11 manila envelope, with their name printed clearly on the outside.
***Work will be placed in alphabetical order (A-F) inside the envelope.
***A title page must be included (double-spaced and centered in the middle of the page) with the following:
