Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund
Amount / Unspecified. The Scholarship is not a full-ride, however in most cases it covers a significant portion of a student’s tuition. The specific amount will depend on each individual student’s need. Will also take into account other financial aid that a student may be receiving.

Eligibility / Applicants must be one of the following: the dependent son or daughter of a U.S. Soldier, Sailor, Airman, Guardsman or Marine who has become permanently disabled as a result of an operational mission or training accident; who has been killed in action; or who has been classified as a Prisoner of War (POW) or Missing in Action (MIA). Must also currently be a high school senior, a high school graduate or currently enrolled full time as an undergraduate student. Must be under the age of 26 at time of application.

Coca-Cola Scholarship

Requirements / Complete online application. Approximately 2,200 applicants will be selected asSemifinalists and notified by mail around December 1. Semifinalists must then complete a secondary application, including essays, official transcripts, and two letters of recommendation. Semifinalist applications are due by mid-January. Our Program Review Committee will select 250 finalists to advance to the final interview phase. Notifications are sent mid-February. In April, the 250 finalists are invited to Atlanta for personal interviews. The finalists are interviewed by a National Selection Committee representing outstanding leaders in business, government, education and the arts.

Walter Hurst Sophomore of the Year Award

Comcast Leaders and Achievers Scholarship Program
Amount / $1,000
Deadline / 11-15-13 to be considered for nomination. 12-05-13 for nominated student to complete online application.
Requirements / Only one Senior from KHS may apply. Complete Senior Information Sheet available on the “College Resource Center” page of the KHS website and submit to Ms. Fasold in the College Room 4405 by the 11-15-13 deadline. Selected student will then be given information on how to access and complete online application.
Eligibility / Full-time high school Senior currently enrolled within a Comcast community. Must have a GPA of 2.8 or higher and demonstrate leadership abilities in school activities or through work experiences. Student must also show a strong commitment to and involvement in community service and plan to attend an accredited nonprofit college, university, or vocational/technical school in the U.S.

Requirements / Complete student cover sheet (general information) + personal information outline listing high school, community and extracurricular activities; high school transcript; two letters of recommendation. A 550 word essay also needs to be completed in the presence of a faculty member within a 2-hour time limit. The essay topic will not be revealed until the day it is administered. There are 2 essay date options: Thursday, October 31st or Thursday, November 7th, both days at 7:15 a.m. Please report to Ms. Fasold’s office (Rm. 4405) on the selected date.

Elks National Foundation Most Valuable Student Competition

Requirements / Applicants will be judged on scholarship, leadership, and financial need. Applications must be submitted to the Elks Lodge closest to the student's permanent U.S. address.
Eligibility / Any high school senior who is a citizen of the United States is eligible to apply; Applicants need not be related to a member of the Elks; Applicants must be citizens of the United States on the date their applications are signed; permanent legal resident status does not qualify; Male and female students compete separately.Applications must advance through local, district and state competitions to reach national judging. The weekend of April 25 to 27, 2014, the 20 top finalists will participate in a Leadership Weekend in Chicago during which they’ll interview with the national judges. These 20 finalists will be vying for two first-place awards of $50,000; two second-place awards of $40,000; and two third-place awards of $30,000. The remaining 14 finalists will receive awards of $20,000. The 480 runners-up will receive fifth-place scholarships of $4,000.

Students must also list the name of a nominating teacher on the registration form. The role of a nominating teacher is to provide students with support and advice during the writing of their essay.

Performing Arts Council of North Houston Scholarship

Requirements / Completed application, high school transcript, letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official, and recent photograph.
Eligibility / Must be a graduating senior who will be pursuing a college degree in one of the following performing arts: music (instrumental or vocal), theater or dance. Student must also have a GPA of 2.5 or higher (on a 4.0 scale) and have a minimum of two years participation at the high school level in the discipline listed above. Selection is based on excellence in chosen performing discipline (awards and other recognition), financial need and academic performance.

Eligibility / Senior who plans to major in engineering or a business-related field; must be ranked in the upper half of their graduating class with a minimum overall unweighted GPA of a “B” or 80% after completion of their Junior year; must plan to enroll in an accredited college, university or technical school within the state of Texas; U.S. citizen and/or be born in the United States and a resident of the state of Texas.

Gulf Coast Regional Blood Center – Commit for Life Creative Scholarship

Requirements / Online application, high school transcript, and submit a creative project/presentation that will educate and inspire individuals to Commit for Life. Creative project may be an essay or blog entry (500 words), create a web page, film a commercial or video, record a song, or any other professional media entry.
Eligibility / High school must host or have hosted at least two blood drives during 2013-2014 school year. Student must have a minimum 2.5 GPA (on 4.0 scale) and plan to attend an institution of higher learning in the year following award of the scholarship . The scholarships will be available to any graduating senior regardless of whether he or she donates blood.

SPWP (Society of Professional Women in Petroleum) Scholarship
