April 2009

Well happy April everyone. Our season of barrel racing will soon begin or for some it already has begun.

I spent a day spring cleaning my camper, I thought I had left it pretty tidy in the fall but I was mistaken. I guess yanking the bedding off the bed and empting the trash was my fall version of tidy. The spring version of me was left weak and tired from washing fly poo off of every surface in there, putting up new curtains, repacking some essentials, and making up the bed. I still have to pack all of my horse gear, and some paper plates! I’ll get there, I swear I will. Good luck to everyone else out there on your own spring cleaning ventures!

Our April meeting was held at Karen Phillips house. Thank you Karen for your hospitality!

President Jo was really excited to report that our efforts at the Hoosier Horse Fair went great and the club made $4000. Plus the accolades of Ray Allison from the fair grounds and also the President of the Horse Council. We have also been invited back for 2010, this was voted on and we decided that we would do it again in 2010.

Pres, Jolene expressed a big thank you to Cindy Harlan and Angie Cunningham for putting the work schedules together and getting all of us organized. Thanks girls, you did an awesome job!

For you girls that like the look of the zippered front western shirts, good news, they are now approved show apparel for the GBRA. So all of you Hobby Horse shirt lovers, you can go out there and get that cool shirt you’ve had your eye on. No, seriously, zippered front shirts can now be worn, but they must zipper all the way to the bottom of the shirt, and still must be worn tucked in. Sleeve length and collar rules still apply.

Fund Raisers

Tickets for the generator raffle were passed out. They sell for $10 each and drawing will be held at Tipton Aug.22th. The cookbooks have made $530 so far and there are still a few more to sell. These will be made available at the shows this summer till they are all gone. If you still have books or money for cookbooks, please get them turned into Chris Johnson ASAP.

Angie Cunningham had checked on and booked us a date for the Kempton Community Bldg, in Kempton for November 14th. We are planning on a chili supper, tack sale, swap meet, silent auction, bingo, we haven’t really decided for sure fall fund raiser for the 2010 treasury. So if you have any sort of ideas, bring them forth.

Sponsors:

June 27th meeting will be the deadline to turn in your ads for the book. Once again $200 in sponsorships will get you a GBRA jacket or 4 entry certificates. Ads should be turned in to Gina Bennett. An extra $25 on any size ad can get it posted on the web page. If you want a jacket and or entry certificates and be considered for the match team you must have $300 in sponsorships.

The 2009 GBRA sponsorship jacket was picked out at this meeting. The color is artic blue, with a black silhouette of a barrel racer with GBRA of Indiana written across the top. This jacket is a spandex/nylon blend, it’s more of a tailored jacket, zip front, no hood, side pockets, microfiber fleece lining, wind and water resistant. It’s pretty cool, you better think about getting out there and getting your $200 in sponsors so you can get one of these! Jolene will have size samples at the HartfordCity and Portland shows.

***Remember that in order to be considered for the match team you must turn in a $100 cash sponsorship. No $100, no ride on the Match Team. Deadline for this money is Aug. 30th. The team will be picked on that date.***

Match Race

Kris was unable to attend the meeting, as I heard all he** was breaking loose at her house on Sunday. But we carried on any way, Cindy Harlan did bring her trophy saddle to show us, she got it from an Amish man, it’s a Billy Cook, basketweave stamped, fender stamping and all for $795. Carol Thompson was going to try and present us a saddle from her new business with a quote in the near future. Jolene Pavey is working with a print shop out of Marion for the t-shirt business at the match, and Marceda Lybarger said the Pacers were getting together some things for our welcome bags. Good job everyone!

PEE WEE

Dana Sparks has gotten a cast iron fire pit that will be raffled off for the PeeWees. This is a pretty cool looking pit. Tickets are $1 for 1 or 6 for $5. Dana has the tickets and the drawing will be at Tipton on August 22.

New Members

We have some new members, that I would like to welcome and hope everyone else will also welcome them when you see them. They are Kelsey Morehouse, Brianna Wheeler, and Pam York. Welcome girls.

The next meeting will be May 9th at Plymouth during the warm up poles.

Happy Trails,

This goes out to all members, family members, spouses, and friends of members who worked at the Hoosier Horse Fair on April 3,4,&5. The GBRA officers and Board of Directors would like to express our appreciation for the hard work and dedication you have shown to this club. The effort you have put forth has gotten your club a $4000 paycheck and rave reviews from Ray Allison of the state fair grounds and the president of the Horse Council reported that he was very happy with the GBRA attitude, that people were greeted with smiles and “have a nice days” and we were a nice bunch of girls to be around. WOW, how awesome is that to hear!!!

So again THANK YOU to all who came out and showed your support for your club. Below is a list of those awesome people.
