AppointmentVan Driver– Headway Retail

Responsible toDonation Centre Manager

Responsible for Volunteer van assistants

Main PurposeTo provide comprehensive stock support to Headway’s charity shops.

To support the efficient day to day management of Headway’s Donation Centre, vehicles, staff and volunteers with the movement of stock throughout the organisationto enable Headway to provide income and therefore support to survivors of brain injury, their families and carers.

Hours35 hours per week

Key Tasks

  • In conjunction with the Donation Centre Manager and Area Manager, plan, organise and ensure the efficient movement of stock between the Donation Centre, Shops, Donors and Customers and that this is done in a safe and timely manner.
  • Ensure the highest levels of customer service, productivity and efficiency at all stages of collection and delivery of stock.
  • Prepare and complete all daily/weekly administration to the highest standards, accurately and on time, always adhering to Company Policies and Procedures.
  • Recruit, manage & motivate volunteers for the van.
  • Ensure regular maintenance and upkeep of company vehicle to include a minimum weekly interior and exterior cleaning of the vehicle.
  • Maintain high standards of organisation and housekeeping within the Donation Centre at all times.
  • Actively promoteand sourcestock donations from customers and the local community.
  • Ensure the security of stock donations, work equipment and personal belongings on the van and the personal safety of yourself and any passengers.
  • To comply with Headway’s Equal Opportunities and Health and Safety policies and undertake appropriate training and personal development as appropriate. To promote Headway in a good light, acting as an ambassador to Headway to the local community, media, customers and volunteers.
  • Abide by Headway’sVan Driving Policy.
  • Actively participate in two way communication, sharing and exchanging relevant and appropriate information with Donation Centre Manager, Area Manager, Shop Managers and teams including Volunteers, Donation Centre and Head Office personnel.
  • Deputise for the Donation Centre Manager during holidays, sickness and meetings.
  • Undertake such other reasonable tasks as may, from time to time, be deemed necessary
Van Driver –
Person Specification
  1. Eligibility to drive a charity vehicle or to drive on behalf of the charity is subject to the driver holding a current valid, full UK driving licence, that has been held by the driver for a minimum of 12 months
  1. Must be able to lift and carry bags and boxes of stock donations, including furniture
  1. Have an awareness of Health and Safety regulations
  1. Excellent customer service skills
  1. Organised with the ability to multi task and work within a fast paced environment
  1. Flexible attitude and be able to change and adapt at short notice
  1. Smart, reliable and punctual
  1. Prepared to be flexible with hours and a willingness to take on additional responsibilities if required
  1. Drive long distances where appropriate
  1. Positive attitude with a “can-do” approach
  1. Willingness to learn about the consequences of brain injury
