CONTENT : PROVINCIAL HISTORIES

TOPIC :HERITAGE AND IDENTITY , PROVINCIAL, GOVERNMENT , SYMBLS, AND THEIR SIGNIFICANCE (PAY SPECIAL ATTENTION TO OWN PROVINCE EASTERN CAPE)

DURATION : 16 HOURS(4WEEKS)

KEY QUESTIONS : -Draw a map of South Africa and fill in the various Provinces and their relative symbols.

-Of what importance is the coat of arms to each of the provinces ?

-What does each of the component parts mean of the component parts of the province mean?(refer to your own province)

-What is so special about your Province?( e. g. important places and important people.)

Shows and explains the use of colour ,pattern, design, signs, and symbols in various cultures, and in the built environment. / ACTIVITY1:-
Teacher brings a map of South Africa to class .He guides learners to fill the provinces in starting with the Eastern Cape. Learners take note the boundaries Eastern Cape shares with other neighbouring Provinces They write the name of each Province down until all the Provinces are done and the map is complete. Teacher consolidates by giving learners all the information left out. He reinforces their level of knowledge. (Map of the Eastern Cape on page 101 and 102 Spot On)
ACTIVITY2 :
-Teacher gives learners of Coat of Arms of all the Provinces .He guides learners in explaining the meaning of each component in the various Coat of Arms of the different Provinces.
-He then diverts the attention of the learners to Eastern Cape .
-Learners go through the component parts of the Coat of Arms of the Eastern Cape and interpret each of them one by one.
ACTIVITY 3:
-Learners list places of importance as per instruction by the teacher e.g. economic ,political, recreational, Heritage Sites ,places of natural importance like mountains ,rivers and other natural features
-Teacher provides an outline of the map of the eastern Cape whereby learners will locate places on the map where these are found.
-Learners write the names/events against each place of importance.
-Teacher consolidates and gives learners guidance and assistance to find other places that may not have been included by learners.
-Teacher then consolidates.
-ACTIVITY 4
Learners list names of important people in the Province especially those who have made a contribution in the well- being of the province in various aspects of life ; economically, politically, socially,...etc(Learners should be encouraged to investigate about the unsung heroes in their local areas who contributed in various ways to improve the quality of life of other people.(sometimes to the extent of sacrificing own life)
-Teacher consolidates by explaining what constitutes a” HERO .“
