Kennedy, Kyl, Feinstein, Spector [sic], Graham on Immigration
June 8, 2007
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WASHINGTON, D.CToday, Senator Edward M. Kennedy was joined by Senators Jon Kyl,
Dianne Feinstein, Arlen Specter, and Lindsey Grahamto discuss the immigration reform bill.
Below are Senator Kennedy’s remarks.
(As delivered)
“This morning I'm reminded of the 1967 Boston Red Sox team, the impossible dream team, that was
behind for a good part of the season, but came roaring back and grabbed victory out of the jaws of defeat.
And that is what we intend to do with the immigration bill.
We are not giving up. We are not giving in. I'm encouraged by what the leaders said
last evening: that they have every intention of continuing the immigration bill on the
front order of business for the agenda of the United States Senate.

Graham still hopeful despite stinging defeat
Senator from S.C. believes a reform measure will pass in the near future

WASHINGTON Sen. Lindsey Graham insisted Friday that Congress will pass
comprehensive immigration reforms even as other senators ribbed him for having
dubbed “the grand bargain” that crashed and burned.
A day after suffering a major legislative defeat, Graham minimized as “a bump in the road”
the Senate’s failure Thursday to act on an immigration bill he helped craft.
“We’re inside the 10-yard line, and we’ve got four downs,” Graham said at a
Capitol briefing. “I like our chances.”
Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, the Massachusetts Democrat who managed the immigration
measure during its two weeks on the Senate floor, used a different sports analogy in
making a more cautious forecast.
“We are in the third or fourth inning on this,” he said.
Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., pulled the immigration bill Thursday evening
after two attempts to end debate were defeated, the second bid by 15 votes.
At a post-mortem Friday filled with gallows humor,Graham joined other
primary sponsors of the immigration measure: Democratic Sens. Kennedy and
Dianne Feinstein of California, and Republican Sens. John Kyl of Arizona and
Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania.
[CCL Note: Dianne Feinstein is a member of the NWO's Council on Foreign Relations (CFR), which is promoting the North American Union to merge Canada, the U.S., and Mexico (spp.gov), and is/has been
a member of Rockefeller's/Brzezinski's Trilateral Commission. Arlen Specteris a 33rd Degree Mason.]
The senators said their party leaders had instructed them to come up with a list of amendments that would help the bill’s prospects for passage, along with a schedule for the Senate to consider them.
“Within a matter of weeks, this issue can and will be resolved,” Graham said.
Graham threatened to obstruct other legislation if the Senate doesn’t take up the
immigration bill again.
“The only thing I can tell you about being a senator from South Carolina we don’t go away,”
he said. “We’re going to keep pushing this. So if you name a post office in the future if a
reasonable time passed and nothing happens (on immigration) if you name a post office,
we’re going to be voting on immigration.”
Aides noted that the immigration bill could be attached to any other measure
moving through the Senate, even the routine resolutions used to name post offices.
Graham’s Senate colleagues made jest of his having called the complex immigration
package “the grand bargain” among powerful, competing interests.
“I sort of twinge at this idea of a grand bargain,” Kennedy said.
“That was Lindsey’s phrase,” Kyl quickly injected. “We don’t associate ourselves with it.”
As Graham laughed, Kyl added: “He wanted to call it ‘the Graham bargain.’ Someone
misunderstood the words.”
Kennedy piled on: “Until it wasn’t going so grandly.”
When the laughter subsided, Graham set minimal conditions for his endorsement of a
revamped immigration bill:

Lindsey Graham is a protege of fellow Amnesty-for-Illegal-Immigrants supporter John McCain.
Graham supported CFR-member John McCain in the 2000 presidential election, and continues
to support McCain in his 2008 campaign.
McCain is NOT pro-life [supports federal funding of embryonic stem cell research, and also
supports "exceptions" to a ban on abortion], and co-sponsored the McCain-Feingold campaign
finance "reform" / anti-free-speech bill.
