Major Project Skills Guarantee

Current and Future Projects

The Major Projects Skills Guarantee (MPSG) was established in January 2016, and is applied to all Victorian publically funded building and construction contracts with a value of $20 million or more.

The policy requires all projects to utilise Victorian registered apprentices, trainees or engineering cadets (ATECs) for at least 10 per cent of the contract works’ total labour hours.

The purpose of the policy is to create more job opportunities, particularly for young people, and promote a strong and sustained vocational training culture within the Victorian building and construction industry.

Currently, 35 major government projects have applied the MPSG, representing $9.44 billion in government expenditure. A further 44 major government projects representing $31.15 billion are scheduled to commence in 2018 – 2019.

Collectively these projects will create more than 5000 employment opportunities for Victorian apprentices, trainees and engineering cadets over the project delivery period (2016 – 2026).
