A STAGED RESPONSE - Supporting Student Engagement

“Positive Behaviours are most effectively supported through relationship based whole school and classroom practices. However it is recognised that some individuals and groups of students require individual support in the development of pro social positive behaviours. For most of these children and young people the development of pro social behaviour is achieved in stages.

Some students who are at risk of disengagement from their learning require evidence based targeted interventions that are monitored regularly to assist them to improve their wellbeing and educational performance. These students are best supported in calm, consistent and predictable school classrooms and environments that understand and recognise their individual needs and provide evidence based support.”

Page 23 - Effective Schools are Engaging Schools, Student Engagement Guidelines

This WMR Staged Response Proforma aims to provide school personnel with:

1.  A framework to assist the school in the identification, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of support strategies to address the barriers to learning for students at risk of disengagement, with focus on a whole school approach to engagement.

2.  Key communication tool providing documentation/record to enable effective communication and seamless transitions between early childhood services, significant stages in schooling, primary/secondary transition and other learning/employment/training pathways.

3.  Key documentation for Referral for additional support through Community Agencies, Student Support Services, Flexible Learning Options, from the Regional Office, Student Wellbeing Team and to the Multi Service Intervention Response Team (MIRT) and for consultation with Regional Network Leaders.
