Welcome to Southern Region Te Kura 2011

What’s New for 2011

Our expectations to support our students achieve:

  • Work returned every 2 weeks
  • Work returned across all subjects to ensure curriculum coverage
  • Students who receive Liaison Teacher visits are present for all appointments.

The whole school key initiatives for 2011, identified in our draft Charter and Annual Plan 2011:

Implementation of the new Student Management System: Our teachers will all be learning new skills.

Implementation of our Online Teaching and Learning Environment (OTLE): This will help us utilize technology effectively throughout the school. OTLE will replace Blackboard.

Standards Review: In 2011 Te Kura will be in the second year of a three year project to rewrite resources for the NCEA levels 1, 2 and 3 qualifications. This is in response to the review by the Ministry of Education and NZQA of NCEA level 1, 2 and 3 which has resulted in changes to the achievement standards at each level.

Implementation of National Standards: Te Kura will continue the implementation of National Standards during 2011. We will make sure that students, parents, families and whānau are clear about the student’s progress and achievement in relation to National Standards, and feel comfortable asking questions regarding how they can support their next steps.

Maori Responsiveness StrategyThis strategy is toengage, develop and support Māori learners to succeed as Māori. We are participating in a nation-wide initiative called HeKakano.

Regionalisation: We aimto network out from our regional offices to provincial centres.

Authentic Learning We want to provide authentic learning experiences wherever appropriate, beginning with the developmentof small, localised learning groups working with a learning advisor, and continuing professional development for teaching teams.

If you would like to provide feedback on any aspect of the key initiatives please go to our web site, where you will find a full copy of the document.

We welcome feedback on any aspect of your experience with Te Kura. Please feel free to contact the learning advisor or liaison teacher in the first instance.

Advisory Groups

Wherever possible, learning advisors located in Christchurch and Nelson, and liaison teachers will be in contact with students to arrange to meet in a central location on a regular basis. This will provide students with access to face to face help with their studies and allow them to develop an authentic learning plan.

Staffing

We welcome a number of new staff to the Christchurch office, and we farewelled Joanne Davies, Brenda Nisbet and Angela Garrity at the end of 2010. Claire Neiman, Kim Keegan and Nicola Anderson continue to work at Te Kura but they are now located in the Central South region.
