Pre-Energiser Event Checklist and Information for Teachers
Please read the check-list below and ensure everything mentioned is in place and/or is suitable for your school.
School Requirements / Check √Total number of students / · 60 per session, unless otherwise stated/agreed.
Timing/length/number of sessions / · The programme is designed to fit up to two 2.5 hour sessions into a school day. The session length can vary from between 2-3 hours but is not workable for sessions any shorter/longer than this.
Parking / · For one car, close to the main school entrance.
Arrival of Education Officer / · The Education Officer will arrive around 30- 45 minutes before the STEM Day is due to start and will need to access the room to set-up.
Group team split / · Students will be in teams of 5
Project room / · A large room such as the school hall or drama studio.
· The project involves running vehicles down a track, so ideally a clear run of 14 metres is required
· Ideally should be a room that can be used for the whole day, uninterrupted.
Electronic equipment / · The Education Officer will present from their own laptop but will need a projector and screen.
· AV support should be on-hand at the start of the day to assist in case the set-up is not straight forward.
Tables and chairs / · Each team will need a large table to work on for the day with chairs. The Education Officer will also need a large table (or two smaller tables) to act as a resource area.
· If using a hall with a stage, this can be used as a resource area instead.
Teacher support / · To ensure a safe working environment, we rely on teacher support for the smooth delivery of our STEM Days. We need at least 2 members of staff at any one time to be present to help monitor students and deal with discipline issues.
· The Smallpeice Trust will facilitate the learning experience as best we can throughout the day to ensure the students enjoy themselves, but student discipline is the responsibility of the school.
The Smallpeice Trust have a team of experienced delivery staff who are trained, DBS checked, and used to working with students of all abilities and backgrounds.
However, in order for the day to run smoothly, safely, and to schedule, we ask that staff involved in the day are willing to be engaged with the students throughout. Staff should act as mentors to encourage team work, help groups to meet deadlines, and to help the Smallpeice Trust Education Officer in ensuring that all teams understand the objectives of the day.
Staff do not need to be experts in STEM subjects to be helpful, but we do ask that staff be watchful and vigilant to assist with health and safety matters and to control behaviour where necessary.
