Editorial

This issue of the Journal contains four articles written by eminent experts and authors. Sarwar Md. Saifullah Khaled in his paper ‘An Inquiry into the Nature, Operation and Results of Global Capitalism’ tries to expose the exploitative nature of global capitalism. It advocates that Islamic economics has a built-in mechanism that enables the global financial system to perform on an orderly manner and avoid any system of catastrophic collapse. The paper argues that the current global financial crises would not have occurred if the Islamic principles of finance were implemented in international financial market. The paper also epitomizes the historical process by which the economic and political power that some people as well as countries of the world accomplish over others through brute means and concludes with some suggestions.

Prof. Dr. Abu Bakr Rafique in his paper “Some Guidelines of Zakatability of the wealth and the Persons Subject to Zakat, the Procedure for calculating Zakat” tries to discuss issues like zakat on exploited goods, shares, bonds and salary income and the policy regarding EPF and exemption of the portion of debt from zakatability. The paper concludes with a practical exercise on the calculation of zakat on various incomes.

M. Nurul Amin in his paper ‘Secular and Islamic concept of Good Governance and its State in Bangladesh’ tries to review the existing literature on good governance under the Secular concept with relevant examples narrated in the Holy Quran for deriving and comparing the two models of good governance. The paper tries to work out the meaning, characteristics, and dimensions of good governance and makes a contrast between bad and good governance. It also makes an attempt to analyse the existing state of governance in Bangladesh by utilizing the parametres of good governance.

Md. Nezum Uddin in his paper ‘Forecasting Inflation of Bangladesh Using VAR And VEC Models’ tries to examine the medium term forecasting of inflation rate for the Bangladesh economy. The paper attempts to measure and justify the overall stance of monetary policy considering variables like Broad Money, Real GDP and Nominal Exchange Rate etc.
