Communications Manager

Reports To: Senior Director of Development

SUMMARY:

The Communications Manager works within the Development Department to promote the mission of Manchester Bidwell Corporation and its affiliate organizations. Under the supervision of the Senior Director of Development, the Communications Manager meets the needs of the corporation’s administrators by overseeing aspects of program related communications to promote increased awareness of the organization and contributions.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Essential duties and responsibilities include, and are not strictly limited to, the following:

  • Writes or edits marketing materials, brochures, catalogs, other print communications and press releases.
  • Works with leadership to establish a production schedule for printed communications.
  • Designs graphics, layout and the overall appearance of print and electronic materials to ensure integrity of established brands.
  • Coordinates production and mailing/distribution of printed communications.
  • Supports the Senior Director of Development’s fundraising efforts through timely and responsive creation of donor materials including annual direct mail appeals, brochures, and event invitations.
  • Creates, designs and maintains social media campaigns for the corporation and its affiliates.
  • Generates content and maintains websites for the corporation and its affiliates.
  • Assists with marketing strategies to promote student enrollment.
  • Ensures all corporate domain licenses are maintained and updated and all hosting accounts are current for Manchester Bidwell Corporation and affiliate websites.
  • Seeks opportunities to promote and showcase staff expertise/achievements throughout the region and beyond.
  • Cultivates media interest and manages press relationships to ensure coverage surrounding programs, special events, public announcements, and other projects.
  • Designs ads for print and web for the corporation and its affiliate organizations as needed.
  • Manages relationships with outside vendors and organizational partners as they relate to communications and publications.
  • Serves as primary contact for tours and event requests. Oversees coordination of onsite events and facility rentals.
  • Works with staff to ensure cohesive corporate messaging during public presentations including but not limited to visitor and media tours, press conferences, programming, and receptions.
  • In consultation with the Senior Director of Development, prepares the annual Communications budget which includes projections for the cost of professional printing and direct mail purchased services and software licenses.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Communications Manager supervises the Communications Specialist.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations or similar and a minimum of 3 to 5 years experience in communications preferably in an academic or nonprofit setting; demonstrated experience overseeing the creation, design and production of print materials and publications; excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to effectively tell a compelling story to a wide variety of individuals; strong project management and analytical skills with an ability to prioritize and meet tight timelines required.

Expert PC and Apple Mac skills including MS Office; print publishing software (Adobe CC) and basic video editing software (iMovie or Premiere Elements); basic desktop publishing and production (Xerox printers); social media aggregator (HootSuite or similar); InDesign, WordPress CMS, and basic HTML also required.
