Crime Watch Report for March 25, 2011 through March 31, 2011

CASE # 11-1020 DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTYOn Friday, March 25, 2011, Cpl. Dotson responded to the Masontown area in regards to a destruction of property complaint. Property damage had been done to a local cemetery.

CASE # 11-1028 RECOVER STOLEN PROPERTY On Saturday, March 26, 2011, Cpl. Tichnell received a call concerning a vehicle bearing an Ohio license plate which had been sitting at the park and ride near Bruceton Mills for a considerable amount of time. The investigation determined the vehicle had been stolen from Columbus, Ohio. This is a continuing investigation.

CASE # 11-1040 DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTYOn Sunday, March 27, 2011, Cpl. Pritt received a call from a resident of Independence who stated that a church in Gladesville had been vandalized with paint balls.

CASE # 11-1045 DESTRUCTION OF PROPERTYOn Sunday, March 27, 2011, Sgt. Turner responded to the Hazelton area in regards to a destruction of property complaint. A man had witnessed the destruction of a mailbox. This is a continuing investigation.

CASE # 11-1080 BREAKING AND ENTERINGOn Sunday, March 27, 2011, Cpl. Pritt responded to the Terra Alta area in regards to a breaking and entering complaint. The victim’s garage had been broken into. This is a continuing investigation.

CASE # 11-1072 LARCENYOn Wednesday, March 30, 2011, Cpl. Dotson responded to a larceny complaint near Fellowsville. The victims stated that their vehicle had been broken into.

CASE # 11-1075 LARCENYOn Wednesday, March 30, 2011, Cpl. Dotson responded to Arthurdale area in regards to a larceny complaint.

CASE # 11-1079 BREAKING AND ENTERINGOn Wednesday, March 30, 2011, Cpl. Root responded to the Hazelton area in regards to a breaking and entering complaint. The victim stated that a storage unit had been broken into and items stolen. This is a continuing investigation.

CASE # 11-1083 LARCENYOn Thursday, March 31, 2011, Cpl. Pritt received a larceny complaint near Terra Alta. The victims of a construction company stated that wire cable had been stolen from their vehicle.

Often times thieves cross county and state lines to conduct their business of stealing, robbing and destroying property. Let’s help Garrett County in tracking down these burglars and in effort to keep them from coming into Preston County.

The Garrett County Sheriff’s Office and the Maryland State Police are seeking information on a series of burglaries that have been occurring at homes around Deep Creek Lake. Since January 2011, there have been 12 reported burglaries to secondary and/or rental homes that are located around Deep Creek Lake. Most of the these burglaries have occurred in the areas of Marsh Hill Road, Turkey Neck, Lake Shore Drive, Deep Creek Drive and Sandy Shores. Burglars are typically stealing flat screen televisions and other related electronic entertainment equipment. In all, there has been over $10,000 in property theft and over $13,000 in property damage.

WV Sheriffs’ Association Announces Applications Available for Sheriffs’ Camp

Get ready for Sheriffs’ Camp! Sheriff Dallas Wolfe encourages all students currently in the 8th grade in Preston County to make application to attend the West Virginia Sheriffs' Association’s Youth Leadership Academy. The camp is a challenging and fun-filled week of educational and recreation activities. This year the camp is being held at the Barbour County 4-H camp near Philippi from July 10th through July 15th.

Sheriff Wolfe said, “The WV Sheriffs’ camp is a great opportunity for the kids of Preston County to learn about law enforcement careers and develop their leadership skills. Middle and high school students from all over the state attend the camp. I’m proud to be a part of this worthwhile experience.”

The camp is a non-profit venture funded by the West Virginia Sheriffs’ Association and private donations. Sheriff Wolfe is asking local businesses and individuals for monetary or in-kind donations to help defray some of the costs.
