A RESOLUTION adjourning the House in honor of Dr. Thomas C. Meredith upon the occasion of his retirement as president of Western Kentucky University.
WHEREAS, it seems appropriate from time to time for this honorable body to reflect upon the contributions of special individuals who have enriched the lives of many people in the Commonwealth of Kentucky; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas C. Meredith received his bachelor's degree from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1963, a master's degree in educational administration from Western Kentucky University in 1966, and a doctorate in educational administration from the University of Mississippi in 1971; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas C. Meredith served ten years with the Board of Trustees of State Institutions of Higher Learning, and he has taught courses in educational administration, curriculum development, and public relations at Indiana University Southeast, Jackson State University, Mississippi State University, and the University of Mississippi; and
WHEREAS, his professional memberships include president-elect of the Sun Belt Athletic Conference, chair of the Renaissance Group, member of the Southern Regional Education Board, and chair of the 1991 United Way of Southern Kentucky, Inc.; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas C. Meredith, through the years, has demonstrated extraordinary vision and leadership, and his contributions to the quality of education in Kentucky are beyond measure and will have a lasting impact; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas C. Meredith will assume the position of chancellor of the University of Alabama on June 1, 1997; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Thomas C. Meredith will retire as president of Western Kentucky University on May 31, 1997;
NOW, THEREFORE,
Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House hails and commends Dr. Thomas C. Meredith for the effort he has given in dedicated service to Western Kentucky University and to the Commonwealth of Kentucky, while demonstrating strong character and providing an element of invincible strength to all the lives he has touched.
Section 2. The passion, dedication, intelligence, and social consciousness Dr. Thomas C. Meredith has brought to the Commonwealth of Kentucky will never be forgotten, and his influence will continue.
Section 3. This honorable body extends best wishes in all future endeavors to Dr. Thomas C. Meredith upon the occasion of his retirement as president of Western Kentucky University.
Section 4. When the House adjourns this day, it does so in deep appreciation and honor of Dr. Thomas C. Meredith.
