CONTEXT
The Australian Indigenous HealthInfoNet is an innovative Internet resource that informs practice and policy in Indigenous health by making research and other high quality health related informationreadily accessible. The HealthInfoNet’s aim isto contribute to ‘closing the gap’ in health status between Indigenous and other Australians.
The HealthInfoNet is a world leader in knowledge transfer/translation. It addresses the knowledge needs of policy makers, health service providers, program managers, Indigenous health workers, clinicians and other health professionals, researchers, students and the general community. The HealthInfoNet’s knowledge transfer research involves the identification and collection of data obtained from academic, professional, government and other sources, and its analysis and synthesis into materials suitable for the various user groups. The results of the HealthInfoNet’s research are disseminated mainly via its Internet site (
As well as its ‘core’ knowledge transfer/translation research, the HealthInfoNet facilitates the active sharing of knowledge and experiences among people involved in specific areas of Indigenous health (such as social and emotional wellbeing, nutrition and ear health and hearing). The HealthInfoNet does this by supporting topic-specific ‘yarning’ places – ‘groups of people who share a concern or a passion for something they do and learn how to do it better as they interact regularly’. / Organisation Chart
