Job title: Marketing and PR Officer

Salary Band: £22,000 - £26,000

Introduction:

Raleigh is a youth and education charity which runs adventure and challenge expeditions for people of all ages, backgrounds and nationalities, enabling them to develop skills and confidence whilst contributing to worthwhile community and environmental projects.

Responsibilities:

The role will be part of the Sales and Marketing team which aims to create awareness of Raleigh and its expeditions and to recruit young people onto the expeditions. The team’s role is dedicated to building relationships with young people and their influencers including schools, universities, youth organisations, careers and skills advisors across the UK and internationally in order to encourage referrals onto expeditions. The team is also responsible organisation-wide for developing and implementing on and offline marketing activity, PR, including marketing collateral, the ongoing maintenance and development of the Raleigh website, e-marketing initiatives, events and advertising.

The role of the marketing and PR officer is a permanent position that has been created to grow the marketing and PR disciplines so as to enhance Raleigh’s awareness, credibility and relevance amongst key audiences, including consumers, parents, educational bodies, government, employers, donors and the media. Crucial to developing the ‘Raleigh stories’ is the collation of quality case studies from all participants, volunteer managers, project partners and influencers.

Specific responsibilities will include:

·  Managing relationship with communications officers in country to ensure collation of quality case studies and production of marketing activities such as blogs and magazines within the Raleigh guidelines

·  Creating PR plan with Head of Sales and Marketing for all of Raleigh’s audiences

·  Liaising with Raleigh’s freelance writers and PR consultants to ensure delivery of PR plan

·  Responding to and maintaining log of media requests

·  Creating and distributing press releases and feature ideas to on and off-line media

·  Maintaining accurate records of media coverage

·  Co-ordinating press launch events including invitations, venues, catering, press contact

·  Managing Raleigh’s inter-departmental communications committee

·  Creating on and off-line advertising for graduate and volunteer manager audiences

·  Interviewing candidates for graduate bursary award

·  Writing copy for Raleigh website, blog and third party organisations and websites

·  Writing and distributing Raleigh’s newsletter to the enquiry database

·  Working with graphic designer to ensure all marketing collateral is up to date and relevant

·  Delivering presentations to groups of young people at educational establishments

·  Attending Raleigh open events and national fairs

·  Handling incoming and following up on enquiries from potential participants

·  Maintaining accurate and detailed records of contact with all potential participants, graduates and media

·  Contributing to the development of internal systems and processes

·  Sharing best practice, ideas, learnings and successes within the team and organisation-wide to maximise the effectiveness of marketing activities

Skills and Experience

Essential

•  Excellent administration skills and attention to detail

•  Evidence of providing superior customer care

•  IT literacy: good level of competency with spreadsheets, word processing and PowerPoint

•  Understanding of social networking and its use as part of an integrated communications plan

Desirable

·  Knowledge of the work of Raleigh and first-hand experience of a Raleigh expedition

·  Knowledge of youth media

The holiday entitlement is 25 working days per year, plus bank holidays

Normal office hours are Monday to Friday, 9.00 - 5.00, although weekend and evening working will be required for Raleigh exhibitions, functions, events and at very busy times of the year (2-5 evenings per month). National and international travel may be required.
