Travel to Work survey 2017– Advance Promotional Text

How did you get to work today?

The four West of England local authorities (Bath & North East Somerset, Bristol, North Somerset and South Gloucestershire)will shortly be opening their annual Travel to Work survey to capture a picture of commuting patterns across the whole of the region.

The Travel to Work Survey 2017will be available from 13th to 17th March and insert company name will be participating again this year. We will be sending round an electronic link (or in some workplaces handing out paper copies)on Monday the 13thso you can fill in the survey. The survey takes around 3-4 minutes to complete, and includes simple questions on how you travelled to/from work that day, along with how you usually travel. It also asks how satisfied you are with your journeys, along with some basic info on when and where you are travelling.

Taking part can help us as a business to:

•keep an accurate record of how staff are travelling to work – useful for travel plans and reporting

•help address issues around how you get to work or identify the need for improved facilities in the workplace

•help manage staff car parking and support sustainable travel to work which in turn can help to reduce congestion and improve air quality.

•monitor our company travel trends year on year

The West of England authorities will use the summary findings to help attract new investment for transport in the area by understanding traffic movements and issues across the region. They will also be used to help plan influence future developments for homes and businesses.

The information also helps identify the needs for new infrastructure. Recent investments made following previous surveys include:

  • Provision of new pedestrian crossings and footpaths
  • Improvements to cycle routes including lighting on cycle paths and new crossings
  • New bus services and new bus stops
  • Road improvements including maintenance and repairs
  • Launch of Join My Journey – helping people find others to share their journey to work by car, cycle or walking.

Previous comments are also informing current discussions relating to the transport network and infrastructure in the region. This includes projects such as the planned Metrobus service due to launch later this year, feedback into the planned consultation on a new junction on the M4 and work on the joint transport study and joint spatial plan amongst other things.

David Callaghan, Hewlett Packard Enterprise said: “We have participated for a number of years in the annual Travel to Work Survey as we find it gives us a real understanding of the issues our staff face traveling to and from work. We have used this staff feedback to help improve the facilities for cyclists on site by installing new cycle pumps and a repair stand in our cycle shelter. We also recently negotiated a discount for staff wanting to purchase an electric vehicle and installed electric car charging points on site so staff can travel more sustainably to work. The survey also lets us measure improvements over time so we can make sure we are doing our part to reduce congestion in the area.”

Following completion of the survey, all participating business will be provided with a full breakdown of their results, provided they receive responses from more than 30 members of staff. We will also receive an overall analysis for the whole area for comparison.

Individuals and organisations will remain anonymous.
