A RESOLUTION adjourning the House of Representatives in loving memory and honor of Mabel F. Bowen.

With deepest respect and admiration, we pay homage and tribute to Mabel Bowen.

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen was born in 1906 and traversed these earthly bounds on March 14, 2003, at the age of ninety-seven years; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen is survived by her daughter, Ann B. Bishop; her son-in-law, Thomas L. Bishop; three grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a sister; and

WHEREAS, Mrs. Bowen was preceded in death by her husband, Albert E. Bowen, in 1981, a former member of the Jefferson County Board of Education for twelve years; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen had a distinguished career as an educator in Jefferson County, having served as a school administrator, principal, and teacher for the old Jefferson County School System, from which she retired as the director of curriculum; and

WHEREAS, Bowen Elementary School was named in honor of Albert E. Bowen, and the library named in honor of Mabel Bowen; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen served as a professor at the University of Louisville; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen was a member of the John Marshall Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution; Delta Kappa Gamma, Theta Chapter; and the Oldham County Republican Women's Club; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen was a member of St. Matthews Episcopal Church for fifty years; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen is honored for her roles as a wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and educator whose career touched countless numbers of Jefferson County students; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen's influence as an educator will continue in the hearts and minds of her students and colleagues; and

WHEREAS, Mabel Bowen's family and friends rejoice in her life even as they deeply mourn her passing;

NOW, THEREFORE,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives of the General Assembly of the Commonwealth of Kentucky:

Section 1. The House of Representatives does hereby express its profound sense of sorrow upon the passing of Mabel Bowen, and extends to her family and friends its most heartfelt sympathy.

Section 2. When the House of Representatives adjourns this day, it does so in loving memory and honor of Mabel Bowen.

Section 3. The Clerk of the House of Representatives is hereby directed to transmit a copy of this resolution to Mrs. Ann B. Bishop, 6200 Payton Lane, Crestwood, Kentucky 40014.
