Official Recorded Minutes of the Board of Directors of the San Fernando Valley Engineer’s Council held on June 2nd, 2003 at The Lamplighter Family Restaurant, Chatsworth, California.
The meeting was attended by: Robert Tarn, Chuck Olsefsky, Milton Garland, Charles Volk, Ray Straub, Paul Landry, Bob Egermeier, and Josh Croswhite (Explorer). Special note was made that John Guarrera was not in attendance due to his attendance at his 60th college class reunion at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
The meeting was called to order by Bob Tarn, President at 18:07. (6:07 p.m.)
The Agenda for the meeting was discussed and approved as submitted.
Secretary’s Report
Minutes of the Board of Directors of the San Fernando Valley Engineer’s Council held on May 6th, 2003 at The Lamplighter Family Restaurant, Chatsworth, California were read into the record and approved.
Motion to approve the minutes was made by Chuck Olsefsky, seconded by Paul Landry, and passed unanimously.
Treasurer’s Report
The Treasurer’s report for the San Fernando Valley Engineer’s Council state of finances for the period May 1st, 2003 to May 31st, 2003 were distributed to all board members and read into the record and approved/items inserted/modified.
Motion to approve the report was made by Charles Volk, seconded by Ray Straub, and passed unanimously.
Ray Straub introduced new financial business. A motion to reimburse Bob Tarn for direct travel expenses to Major General Chuck Yeager’s birthday celebration in Plano, Texas was made by Ray Straub. The result of this trip was securing Major General Joe Henry Engle, USAF (Ret.) as the keynote speaker for the Engineer’s Week Awards Banquet in 2004. The motion was seconded by Chuck Olsefsky, and passed unanimously.
New financial business was introduced by Bob Tarn.
Bob submitted an invoice for web hosting services for the San Fernando Valley Engineer’s Council web site that had been billed to his personal credit card.
Resolution of old financial business was: None.
Bob Egermeier presented the charter documents and roster for the Engineering Explorer post associated with Canoga Park High School, Post number 3142. He further introduced to the Board the President of the Engineering Post, Joshua Croswhite.
Bob Tarn informed the council that he intends upon attending the Los Angeles Council of Engineers and Scientist meeting.
Bob Tarn informed the Board that the local section of the AIAA is interested in participating in the engineering technical symposium that has been proposed, and to be held the same day, or possibly the same weekend as the annual Engineer’s Week Awards Banquet.
Bob Tarn brought to the attention of the Board the email response from Bob Egermeier regarding the Explorer Post plansto participate in the “Young Eagles” small aircraft introduction to flying program. Bob Egermeier indicated in the email that ten youths were interested in attending.
Honors and Awards Committee Report:
Discussion centered on availability of Board members to present the scholarship awards to the six recipients. Bob Tarn volunteered to present the awards to Manuel Sobrino at Birmingham High School and Joshua Park at El Camino Real High School. Mike Garland agreed to present the award to Karin Ramchandani. At Taft High School. Paul Landry will present the award to Brian Witt at Lancaster High School. Ray Straub will present the award to Tara Goldberg at Canoga Park High School.
Communications Committee Report:
Ray Straub updated the Board on the progress of the committee in establishing lines of communication with the various media organizations in the area.
