Medics committee: Minutes of meeting held on 4 July 2017

Present: Cameron Roy, Liam Murphy, Dan Richards, Bethan Frost, Tom Jose, James Morris, Tom Vardy, Alex Burrows, Pippa Jolles, Dan Marshall, Henny Glanville

1.‘Save a life September’

○Aim is to ensure Basic first aid sessions given in lessons across all year groups

○Target to be completed between September and December 2017

Agreed actions:

Need to contact Biology/WBQ/PSE/PE departments to ask about carrying out First Aid sessions in their lessons.

○Mr Weeks- Biology

○Mr Evans- PSE

○Mrs Christopher/ Mr Burgum- WBQ

○Mr Thomas- PE

○Mr Lewis- health and wellbeing

Action points: Deadline = Tuesday 18th July (all)

2. First Aid sessions for medics group members:

○Wednesday 6pm Cowbridge

○Or option of sessions during school time before the end of the year

3. Resources from St John’s to promote Medic’s group and first aid awareness:

○Leaflets/posters

○Apps e.g St John’s Ambulance app

○Social media- posts lifesaving tips on a regular basis

4. Defibrillator

○To continue fundraising from last year in March

5.Research about Mental Health Awareness week

○When/ where etc.

○This year was 8th-14th May

6.Sixth form Blood drive

○To get as many members of sixth form to donate blood.

○Mr Farrell is in charge

○Target group= Year 13

○Aim for December

7.Additional mental health schemes

○Dementia Friends

○Pave the way

8.Medic’s debating group

○Aimed towards those who want to study medicine as they need a working knowledge of current affairs relating specifically to medicine.

○The group is aiming to get guest speakers (professionals or teachers) to speak and discuss a certain topic.

○Meetings on Monday lunchtimes E2D.
