I.  GENERAL INFORMATION

II.  COURSE DESCRIPTION

Computer Applications is a course designed to reinforce keyboarding skills, familiarize students with the following programs:

·  Microsoft Word

·  Microsoft Excel

·  Microsoft PowerPoint

·  Microsoft Publisher

·  Microsoft Access

III.  CONTENT OUTLINE

Content will be taught in the following order:

·  Microsoft Word

·  Microsoft Excel

·  Microsoft PowerPoint

·  Microsoft Publisher

·  Microsoft Access

IV.  COURSE/UNIT OUTCOMES

Students will be able to perform the following outcomes at the end of each unit.

·  Word-Word Processing- Properly create and format letters, memos, tables, and reports, along with many other skills and features of the program.

·  Excel- Spreadsheets- Understand what a spreadsheet is, how to enter and manipulate data, and print the results.

·  PowerPoint- Properly create an electronic presentation using Microsoft PowerPoint.

·  Publisher- Create the following: business cards, calendars, flyers

·  Access-Create, search, and maintain a database as well as integrate Word and Access in order to perform various Mail Merge applications.

VII.  COURSE ASSESSMENT PROCEDURES

All assignments, will be assigned a point value to be graded by the teacher. At the end of each marking period, all graded assignments will be added together and divided by the number of points possible to determine an average grade.

At the conclusion of each program, students will create various business-related print materials for a local business. There will be a cumulative final that covers all material learned at the end of the semester.

A reminder of the grading scale:

A=95-100 Superior

B=85-94 Above Average

C=75-84 Average

D=70-74 Below Average

E=Below 70 Unsatisfactory

·  Any confirmed cheating will result in a grade of zero for all parties involved!

VIII.  LATE WORK POLICY

All work for Computer Applications is to be completed during class. A two week extension will be granted to any student needing any additional time to complete the required work. This additional time is to be before school, after school, or during activity period. If the required work is not complete by this due date, a grade of zero will be entered into the grade book.

IX.  DISCIPLINE POLICY

Student learning and achievement are the main goals in Computer Applications. Any behavior that inhibits other students from reaching these goals will be punishable by any/all means described in the Pathfinder.

X.  AFTER SCHOOL ASSISTANCE

After school assistance will be available each Monday from 2:30 to 3:00. Additional days will be posted on my Web site each week.
