Sara, Geoffrey and Nicky were selected to represent Borel at the California Music Educators Conference this Friday, February 16th In San Jose in the All-State Honor Jazz Ensemble. Nicky, Sara and Geoffrey were selected from hundreds of auditions as the top middle school jazz performers in the entire state of California. Way to go Bobcats!
Registration is open for Expanding Your Horizons!Saturday March 17thSkyline College will hold its annual Expanding Your Horizons (EYH) conference. This conference for 6ththrough 12thgrade young women to learn about career opportunities in math, science, and technology. STEM careers are fun, exciting, and rewarding, and so is EYH! Conference participants conduct lab experiments, wire high-tech network systems, examine microscopic creatures,
and design their own computer software and so much more. Each girl attends three hands-on workshops during the all-day conference. Families with girls who are interested in attending this wonderful event please visit and register online or see Mrs. Dobel in room 8 for more information.

Join us for a Borel Drama Revelry Ride! In the spirit of our 2018 Borel Spring Musical, we have organized a drama inspired indoor cycling class. Join Ms. G for a great workout on February 25th at 4:00pm. Tickets are $35 and space is limited. The price includes 50 minutes of high energy, musically inspired spin ride and spin shoe rental. The Borel IB Cultural Fair needs YOU!!
The Cultural Fair Committee is working hard to plan all the fantastic activities that Borel students and their families and friends will be able to enjoy during the week of March 26. But they need your help to make this event the huge success that it has been for the last 28 years…Your participation will have a direct impact on our students' education both through showcasing our community’s immense cultural diversity; and through the money raised at the food fair which helps fund PTA programs.Do you or your family come from Central or Eastern Europe? Africa or the Middle East? Australia or New Zealand? Do you want to educate your kids and the Borel Community about your culture and background while raising funds for the school?? We are looking for volunteers to share their heritage by creating an information booth displaying fun facts and artifacts from their country of origin, and cooking and sharing some delicious national dishes. If you would like to get involved but aren’t ready to put together your own booth come and help with one of our existing booths. Countries confirmed this year include: China, Germany, Philippines, Argentina, India, Switzerland, United Kingdom, Japan, Iran, Greece, Israel, African-American, Russia, Guatemala, Mexico, Italy, France, Ukraine, Honduras, Denmark, Algeria, Samoa. Parents are welcome to offer assistance at a booth even if there are already coordinators identified for the country. Tickets are ON SALE for Borel's 12th Annual TableArt Luncheon, Sunday, March 4, 2018, 11am - 2pm. Space is limited! If you can’t make it to the luncheon, please consider donating to Fund-A-Need, which will help pay for a large rain-resistant canopy that will provide additional space for P.E. classes and and outdoor learning environment for other classes. For students, this is an opportunity to earn valuable community service hours. We need Borel students to help serve food, replenish water, and bus tables. We also need parent volunteers to help with set-up and break down. Students and parents can click here to volunteer.
What is the the TableArt Luncheon? The library becomes a backdrop for beautifully decorated tables where you’ll enjoy a lovely sit down luncheon with members of the Borel community. Each table theme is created and designed by members of Borel's own community. We will also feature local artisans selling

The Borel PTA Raffle Ticket Sales Contest Kicks Off This Week!
This week each student will receive an orange envelope with three books of raffle tickets and selling instructions from their homeroom teacher. Now is the time to start selling and to raise money to benefit all of our Borel students!
The first of four turn-in dates is Tuesday, Feb 20th. Please encourage your child to bring back their envelope with ticket stubs and collected money to the raffle table at the lunch court during lunch. Each student who turns in any amount of sold ticket stubs/$ will receive candy!
If your child will not be participating in the raffle, please have them turn in the unsold tickets to the office so that other students can sell them.
We have fantastic prizes this year for our Top Student Sellers:
1st Prize – 2 tickets to Warriors vs Lakers game
2nd Prize – GoPro 6 camera plus accessories
3rd Prize - $200 gift card to Hillsdale Mall

US History Trip:
Attention 8th grade families interested in participating in the Washington DC trip, June 24-28th, we have scholarship money available! Please send me an email if your student is interested in participating inthetrip and needs assistance, including why your student would like to attend and how the financial aid would help them. Our absolute deadline for signups is March 1st. We'll be touring Williamsburg, Jamestown and DC with accredited guides, andsetting up meetings with our local congresswoman and senator. Parents are also welcome to sign up for this unforgettable tour, where participants receive a fun and in-depth education of how the US was founded, along with Borel teacher Crystal Mayer and US History teacher Nathan Beach. Sara, Geoffrey y Nicky fueron seleccionados para representar a Borel en la Conferencia de Educadores Musicales de California este viernes, 16 de febrero en San Jose en el Conjunto de Jazz Honorario de todo el Estado. Nicky, Sara y Geoffrey fueron seleccionados de cientos de audiciones como los mejores músicos de jazz de la escuela intermedia en todo el estado de California. ¡Muy bien Bobcats!
¡La Registración está Abierta para Expandir sus Horizontes! El sábado, 18 de marzo el Colegio Skyline tendrá su conferencia anual Expandiendo tus Horizontes (EYH siglas en inglés).Esta conferencia es para jovencitas de los grado 6-12, para que aprendan sobre oportunidades de carreras en matemáticas, ciencia, y tecnología. ¡Las carreras STEM son divertidas, emocionantes y gratificantes y también lo es EYH! Las participantes de la conferencia harán experimentos de laboratorio, programarán sistemas de red muy técnicos, examinarán creaturas microscópicas, diseñaran su propio programa y mucho más. Cada niña asistirá a tres talleres prácticos durante la conferencia de todos el día. Las familias de las niñas, que estén interesadas en asistir a este maravilloso evento, por favor visiten y regístrense en línea o hablen con la Sra. Dobel en el salón 8 para más información.

¡¡La Feria Cultural IB de Borel te Necesita!!
El Comité de la Feria Cultural, está trabajando arduamente para planear todas las fantásticas actividades que los estudiantes de Borel y sus familias y amigos podrán disfrutar durante la semana del 6 de marzo. Pero necesitan su ayuda para hacer de este evento el gran éxito que ha sido por los últimos 28 años… Su participación tendrá un efecto directo en la educación de nuestros estudiantes por medio de demostrar a nuestra comunidad nuestra inmensa diversidad cultural, y con el dinero recaudado en la feria de comida, que ayuda a pagar por nuestros programas del PTA. ¿Conoce usted o su familia de Europa Central o Este? ¿África o el Medio Oriente? ¿Australia o Nueva Zelanda? ¿Quiere educar a sus hijos y a la Comunidad de Borel sobre su cultura y antecedentes mientras recauda fondos para la escuela? Estamos buscando voluntarios para compartir su patrimonio cultural creando una caseta informacional para mostrar datos divertidos y artefactos de su país de origen, y cocinar y compartir deliciosos platillos nacionales. Si le gustaría participar, pero no está listo para preparar su propia caseta venga y ayuda con las casetas existentes. ¡Las Ventas de Boletas de la Rifa del PTA Comenzara esta Semana!
Esta semana cada estudiante recibirá un sobre anaranjado con tres libros de boletos de rifa e instrucciones de venta del maestro de su salón hogar. ¡Ahora es el momento de comenzar a vender y recaudar dinero para beneficiar a todos los estudiantes de Borel!
La primera de cuatro fechas de entrega es el martes, 21 de febrero. Por favor anime a su hijo a regresar el sobre con los talones de los boletos y el dinero recopilado a la mesa de la rifa en el patio de almuerzo durante el almuerzo. ¡Cada estudiante que entregue cualquier cantidad de talones de boletos vendidos /$ recibirá dulces!
Si su hijo no participará en la rifa, por favor pídale que regresen los boletos no vendidos a la oficina para que otros estudiantes puedan venderlos.

Paseo de Historia de los Estados Unidos:
Atención familias de estudiantes de octavo grado interesados en participar en el viaje a Washington DC en Junio24 al 28, todavía contamos con becas disponibles!
Por favor envíeme un correo electrónico si usted está interesado en que su hijo participe en este paseo, en por qué su hijo estaría interesado en participar de esta experiencia y como una ayuda Financiera pudiera ayudarlo a que esto sea posible. Nuestra fecha límite es Marzo 1. Nosotros vamos a recorrer Williamsburg, Jamestown y DC con guías acreditados. También tendremos encuentros con congresistas y senadores. Los padres están invitados a inscribir a sus hijos en este inolvidable paseo donde aprenderá mucho sobre la historia d los Estados Unidos y como fue fundada junto con profesores de Borel como Crystal Mayer y el maestro de historia De Estados Unidos Nathan Beach.
