Change of plan for DG's visit:
As the majority of our Board members plus others will beheading off overseas during September and early October,DG John and Julie have agreed to change their official visit date to 23 October (instead of 11 September).Apart from the Directors meeting with DG John after the usual morning meeting, we will now collect pre-loved shoes for this date -so can you please ask your friends, family and neighbours for their gently wornshoes to be donated to Soles4Souls Australia. Please remember that each PAIR of shoes must be accompanied by a gold coin donation to help pay for the transportation costs to Tanzania and other destinations - so don't forget to ask the shoe donor for their monetary donation as well. Julie has adopted S4S Australia as her Rotary charity to support during John's year as DG.(Shoes with higher than 2 inch heels and Ugg Boots will not be accepted.)
Board Meeting points of interest
  • Club Service Director Ray Cullen has sought and been grantedleave of absence from September-January and has resigned his Directorship this year due to increasing work and other organisational commitments as well as an overseas trip coming up in October. However, all is not lost as our Incoming President Don Tindale forgot to duck when I hand-balled the Directorship in his direction - congratulations Don, and thanks for accepting the position for the remainder of the year.
  • Leave of absence has also been granted to Geoff, Bruce, Richard, Dean and Angas for their extended overseas trips throughout September and parts of October.
  • Please note that with Bruce's absence for two months while he visits his son in Denmark, Don Tindale will be assuming he role ofTreasurer.
  • Reminder to pay your annual fees for this year - either through direct debit or cheque to Don.
  • All Directors are asked to submit their Budgets for the year by 5 September (except for 2 already received).
Club Committee Meetings
Club Service (Don Tindale) - consideration re Christmas event to be investigated over next few weeks.
Community (via Colin Davies) - Colin and Vinda (prospective member) discussed community opportunities for the needs of Adelaide's homeless and we heard about Vinda's dad who helps disadvantaged families in Battabong (phonetic spelling) Cambodia.
Vocational/Youth (John Wotherspoon)- visit proposed to the Road Traffic centre or Hutt Street Centre -more info when it is arranged; school opportunities include NYSF, RYDA, Science & Engineering Challenge next year, mock interviews. Schools will be approached to promote ties.
International (via Simon Blight) - we will continue to invest in the very successful Colombian Education Scholarships Program as well as Soles4Souls Australia and will seek interest from other clubs re Colombia both in Adelaide and Bogota Suba. However, the committee expressed the desire to assist a nearby community ie PNG or Solomon Islands as well; Rotary Exchange may be considered with hosting via school parents or other avenues; introduce a 30 second international spot; hold an international night with cooking demo etc
Fundraising/Fellowhip (Dean Sullivan) - we are holding a Cocktail Party to raise funds for End Polio Now (a list of names is sought from members); also investigating a BBQ fundraiser for sports-goers.
Membership (via Richard Jarrett) - New member justinducted with several upcoming possibilities. Our breakfast club is ideal for city workers who wish to meet on their way to work so we should concentrate on these potential members as well as city-based residents.
This week's speaker:
Don't forget to invite your friends and colleagues to hear this excellent speaker. Rotarians from other clubs are also invited to attend - just let President Yvette or Secretary Fred Field know of your attendance ahead of time so that we can arrange appropriate catering. Rodney will also be bringing along his new book which will be sold at just $25 a copy.

Shy Guy
A very shy guy goes into a bar and sees a beautiful woman sitting at the other end. After an hour of gathering up his courage he finally goes over to her and asks, tentatively, "Um, would you mind if I chatted with you for a while?" To which she responds by yelling, at the top of her lungs, "No, I won't sleep with you tonight!"
By now, the entire bar is staring at them. Naturally, the guy is hopelessly and completely embarrassed and he slinks back to his table. After a few minutes, the woman walks over to him and apologizes. She smiles at him and says, "I'm sorry if I embarrassed you. You see, I'm a graduate student in psychology and I'm studying how people respond to embarrassing situations." To which he responds, at the top of his lungs, "What do you mean $200!"
