Alumni Wall of Fame Criteria and Process

Purpose: To establish an alumni recognition program culminating with a Wall of Fame, consisting of a permanent plaque describing honoree and accomplishments placed in a prominent and secure Nottingham High School location.

Process: The Wall of Fame Board will accept nominations from the Nottingham alumni and school community annually until December 31. Nominations will be reviewed by the Board prior to the annual awarding of recognition. The following is the evaluation to be used for reviewing nominees:

a.  Candidates are to have received their high school diplomas from Nottingham.

b.  Candidates are to have graduated at least 10 years prior to their nomination.

c.  Candidates are to have made a significant positive contribution to the local, the regional, the national or the international community

d.  Candidates may be living or deceased

e.  Recommendations must have documentation supporting the candidates’ nominations

f.  Nominations may come from the Board or from the candidates or their representatives

Board Composition: The Wall of Fame Board should consist of the following members:

·  Three members from the Nottingham High School Alumni Association

·  Three members from the Nottingham High School administration and/or staff

·  One member from the Nottingham High School Parent-Teacher-Student Organization

·  Two additional members from any of the groups already mentioned

The Board will meet to review candidates and to select two for recommendation each year, with five candidates being recognized the first year of this program (2006). The initial Board will recruit new members for the following year’s review process at the conclusion of the recognition event, to be determined by each year’s Board. The Board has the authority to solicit the Nottingham community for nominations, as well as promote the event through publicity and to seek underwriting through fundraising.

Recognition Event: Recognized alumni (or their family if they are deceased) are to be notified within two weeks after the Board’s recommendation in January of each new calendar year. Recognized alumni (or their representatives) are to acknowledge the nomination by the end of February of that year. If a candidate refuses the recognition, then that candidate’s name will be dropped from consideration and another name will not be recommended to take the place in that year.

Wall of Fame Criteria -2- Nottingham High School

Nominated alumni are to provide the Wall of Fame Board with a brief biography and a 5x7 black/white photo for a display plaque and for press releases.

Standard recognition plaques (to be consistent from year to year) are to be made up to comprise a name, graduation year, photo, and four-line summary of the alumni’s contribution.

The initial event in 2006 – timed to commemorate the first graduating class of Nottingham High School – will be the benchmark for following events. The process, the event, and the Board can be modified immediately following each year’s event in order to improve the process.

A certificate noting the recognition shall be given to the honoree and the plaque will be placed in a permanent and secure display at Nottingham High School.
