Notes:

1. The Dauphin Island Estuarium was closed on September 14-30, 2004, due to Hurricane Ivan, and closed again during September 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. The Estuarium was also closed September 1, 2, and 11-13, 2008 due to Hurricanes Gustav and Ike.

2. The Exploreum & IMAX was closed September 1-17, 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina.

3. The Mobile Museum of Art closed on May 8, 2000 and reopened on July 21, 2000 at the Mobile Civic Center. The Mobile Museum of Art moved to its permanent location at the Langan Park in September 2002. Visitor counts at the Mobile Museum of Art include visitors who enter the gate without pay on occasional promotional days. Visitors to the Vaughan Morrissette Art Trail or to the free outdoor sculpture exhibition are shown in the Mobile County Attractions Grounds Attendance.

4. The Museum of Mobile was closed on August 29, 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina and re-opened on March 1, 2006.

5. The USS Alabama was closed on August 29, 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina, and re-opened on January 8, 2006.

6. First sailing of the Carnival Holiday was October 16, 2004. After the September 3, 2005 sailing, Carnival contracted with FEMA to house Hurricane Katrina evacuees as a temporary shelter. Holiday resumed sailing on March 27, 2006.

From July through September 2009, Carnival hosted another ship, the Fantasy. On November 11, 2009, Holiday with 1,452 capacity was replaced by Fantasy with 2,052 passengers. On May 15, 2010, Fantasy was replaced with Elation with the same 2,052 passenger capacity.

7. Oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico by British Petroleum began on April 20, 2010.

The I-10 Baldwin County Welcome Center was closed for 7 days in July 2005, and closed again many days in August and September 2005 due to Hurricane Katrina. It was affected by the hurricane in Florida in October 2005.

20. (a) City of Mobile sales tax and room tax revenues are those collected within city limits and police jurisdiction. Revenues of a given month are those collected by vendors during the previous month. City sales tax revenues are general fund only. In October 2000, a 2% tax on goods purchased inside the city but delivered for use outside Mobile County. County sales and room tax revenues of a given month are those collected by vendors during the previous month. (b) A sales tax holiday began August 2006, so numbers may appear lower than expected for the month of August. (c) Due to the city of Mobile annexing west Mobile, sales tax numbers are expected to increase beginning November 1, 2007. The city of Mobile began collecting sales tax on annexed areas of West Mobile on November 1, 2007. The annexed areas include portions of Schillinger Road and the Mobile Regional Airport. Annexation increased sales tax rate from PJ rate (2%) to full city rate (4%), increasing city sales tax revenue by about $11 million a year, but negated 0.5% of special sales tax to the MCPSS from the annexed area. (d) The Battlehouse Hotel opened on May 11, 2007 at 26 N. Royal St. in downtown Mobile, (e) The city of Mobile annexed the Windmill Place subdivision and a section of Theodore on October 7, 2008. (f) On May 4, 2010, the Mobile City Council approved the increase of the Sales Tax by 1% starting on June 1. City began to collect the new tax on June 1, 2010. The new rates will be in effect until September 30, 2011. Sales tax for heavy equipment and automobile dealers in the city will increase from 2% to 2.25%. The tax rate in restaurants will remain at 10%.

21. The Mobile County hotel marketing fund is 76% of the given month’s county room tax revenue.

22. September 2007 figure includes a lump sum payment of $526,253.03 by a delinquent payer.
