Dear Parents,

Happy May! Where has this year gone?!?

We had a wonderful time at the zoo on Wednesday! In addition, we are relieved to have finished up the last parts of our end-of-the-year testing. In Math, we worked on x12 facts, 3-D shapes, and 2-digit by 1-digit multiplication (i.e. 25x5). We are working hard to learn about the rainforest! In Reading, we have been working on our May Reading Goal – reading rainforest books and writing book reports at school. It is also exciting for us to have nearly finished all of our cursive capital letters!

A note about next week’s Spelling words is attached – please read it and help your child prepare. J

Please note that we will be gone on Monday and Tuesday afternoon (1:00-2:30) next week to travel to LHS in order to practice for the Spring Music Program. The program itself will be Tuesday evening, and the students need to be in their seats by 6:45. (Wear comfortable shoes, nice jeans, and a Lyons <or royal blue> shirt.)

Next Wednesday is Field Day at LHS! Please be sure your child wears tennis shoes and clothes that are easy to move in. Our part of Field Day is in the morning from 9:00-12:00 – and we will eat at the track before returning to school. Please feel free to come watch your child participate!

A heads-up for you: We will be having our 3rd Grade Habitat Programs throughout the day on May 19th at these times: 8:15-9:05; 9:15-10:05; 12:40-1:30; and 1:30-2:20. (Invitations will be sent home next week.) Selling punch and cookies to raise money for our school is also part of our programs. I will need your help with this! Each Third Grader will need to bring three dozen cookies that day (either homemade or store bought) to sell. Thanks for your help with this!

Other reminders are:

Any students who have not completed their Friday addition and subtraction timed tests by now will begin to owe me five-ten minutes of their daily afternoon recess. You can help your child pass their tests by having them practice their addition and subtraction facts every night.

{  It’s getting close to the end of the year. Please be looking for any library books that your child may have at home.

{  If you haven’t already done so, please wash your child’s Pat on the Back shirt inside out in cold water and send it back to school clean! We have one more Pat left to go this year. J
