AP Photography Application – 2D Portfolio submission

The program is a two-year commitment beginning at the Junior level and the exam is taken Senior year. The average portfolio (at the end) consists of over 200+ photographs of which only the best 30 are chosen for portfolio exam evaluation. The portfolio consists of both 35mm film prints and digital images. If a student intends to take over 3+ AP courses, AP photo is not recommended due to the time required for printing, Photoshop time, general assignments, & darkroom hours. Unmotivated or apathetic students should NOT apply. If a student is accepted to both AP Photography & AP Creative Imaging two complete portfolios are required, but a single 2-D Portfolio will be submitted.

If you are going to be a Senior – the prerequisite of either Digital I or Film I is required

It is possible to take the Pre- AP Photo course your Junior Year, but most students find the work a bit overwhelming if they have not completed the summer work.

Extra costs = B&W photo paper, flash drive(s), matting prints, digital printing costs, B&W films, & cost of exam during the Senior year.

The completed application – (essay) should be turned in to the guidance office, they will then forward the submissions for consideration to the teacher.
The full-page essay and information must be typed.

Requirements:

A) List of photography and other art classes taken, teachers, at what grade level, and grade received.

B) Essay should be full page typed answering the following questions:

1- Why are you interested in taking AP Photography?

2- Why do you think you should be chosen for the program?

3- How motivated/disciplined are you as a student?

*Students must also check with guidance to confirm ‘space’ in schedule. **Students are also required to do a significant amount of summer work. Not completing this summer work can result in the withdrawal from the AP Program. The meeting for summer work is held in May or early June all accepted students must attend.
