Duty Statement
The Community Development Worker is responsible for assisting the Community Strengthening Co ordinator to build community strength by building links between community members with a focus on including disadvantaged groups eg by holding social and cultural events or be setting up a network around shared issues. This position is based at the Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre at 89 Waldron Rd Chester Hill and is subject to relevant funding conditions. Funded until June 2017.
The Community Development Workers responsibilities are:
Analyse local needs and issues, initiate awareness of and establish projects that respond to such needs and issues.
To develop rapport with residents of Bankstown and advocate for, and encourage them towards self help. Providing opportunities for educational, recreational and social activities.
Plan, promote and conduct activities for men eg Just for Older Men’s Group and Mullabo Men’s Place
To attend and participate in meetings in the area which are relevant to the role of Community Development Worker.
Maintain relevant records and statistics.
To work as a team member of the Neighbourhood Centre
Other duties as required by the Centre Manager and Management Committee
SELECTION CRITERIA –
COMMUNITY DEVELOPMENT WORKER
A Community Development Worker (20hrs per week) is required at Chester Hill Neighbourhood Centre. This position is funded by FACS until June 2017.
Essential:
Relevant tertiary qualifications eg Social Science or Social Welfare
Demonstrated experience working in a community development role.
Ability to develop & implement programs.
Access to a comprehensively Insured Vehicle & full Drivers License
Motivation & enthusiasm
Cultural awareness
Exceptional oral & written communication skills
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Networking skills and knowledge of the local area
Demonstrated advanced computer skills
Understanding of and commitment to EEO and WH & S .
Willingness to obtain a Police Check
Current Working with Children Check
2 Current Referees
Desirable:
LR License
