Call for DIT Access & Civic Engagement Office and/or Disability Service Tutors

2016/17

The DIT Access & Civic Engagement Office is recruiting a panel of Tutors who may be called upon during the 2016/17 academic year.

Job Description

  • A Tutor is a person with a subject-specific qualification assigned by the Institute to academically assist students, including students from socio-economically disadvantaged backgrounds and/or students with a disability, prepare for assignments and examinations.
  • Sessions will be delivered weekly to asmall groups of students or, in some cases, one-on-one.
  • Sessions are not intended to be lectures, rather troubleshooting sessions where students can bring questions and concerns from their lectures or exam preparations
  • Tutors will be expected to liaise with Access & Civic Engagement Staff, noting attendance and communicating relevant student concerns.
  • Tutors have the option to liaise with academic staff in relevant DIT Schools for guidance on subject material and student attendance.
  • The rate of pay is €27/hour for candidates with eligible employment records. The terms and conditions of the DIT Tutor/Senior Demonstratorcontract of employment will apply to this role. This is available from the DIT Human Resources Office.
  • An induction session and relevant training will be provided.

Person Specifications

  • Hold a third level qualification. Applications are welcome from tutors qualified in all subjects, but PLEASE NOTE that tutors will be engaged in response to student demand. Subjects often in demand include: Chemistry, Physics, Spanish, French, Gastronomy, Food Science, Economics, Accounting, Mechanics, CAD, and Engineering, among others.
  • Be sensitive to the concerns of students from a socio-economically disadvantaged background
  • Be sensitive to the concerns of students with a disability
  • Be available to deliver weekly sessions to groups of students in Dublin city centre
  • Be available for Tutor induction session in early August 2016.

The appointment of Tutors is reviewed annually by the DIT Access & Civic Engagement Office and offers of specified purpose part-time employment are made on an annual basis by the relevant Director.
