FREE FAFSA PREPARATION DATES AT HIXSON HIGH:
January 30th, 8-10 AM, Free FAFSA preparation, (@HHS guidance office, reservation is required, First come, first serve, sign up with Mrs. Lewis, ext. 232)other dates available are: 2/27 8-10 AM, 3/4 1-3 PM, 3/20 8-10 AM, 3/25 1-3 PM, 4/3 8-10 AM, and 4/8 1-3 PM. These will be half hour appointments, and parents will need pin numbers and all tax information. (TAX FORMS)or email Mrs. Lewis at to make a reservation. Mrs. Lewis is also available to do FAFSA Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8-3:00 PM- please call or email for an appointment.

Chattanooga Retired Teachers Association – For seniors aspiring to become a teacher

3 - $2000 Scholarships – Must have a 2.5 GPA and plan on becoming a teacher. Please submit an essay of 300 to 500 words (please do NOT put your name on the essay – use a cover sheet) on why he or she wants to be a teacher. These must BE IN MY HAND BY March 12th at noon.

Ivy Rose Scholarship

Criteria: female, 3.0 GPA and 19 ACT or higher, exemplary, character, leadership and community service. The following must be turned in to Mrs. Lewis by Feb 25th:

2 letters of recommendation, letter of acceptance from a college or university, an essay of 100 words or less on how an organization or community activity you participated in helped with your development as a young lady.

XI STATE ESSAY CONTEST

Topic – The Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass an American Slave, written by himself, was published in 1845 to educate Americans about the plight of slaves. Students will read chapters VI and VII as a close reading and prepare an argumentative essay supporting the focus statement given below.

“Frederick Douglass’s life positively changed when he learned to read, yet e was punished for learning a skill that would enable him to break the bonds of slavery.”

UTC YES SCHOLARSHIP- $3000 per year –Must submit UTC application and complete the UTC scholarship application. You must also fill out the FAFSA and UTC financial aid forms after Jan 1st but before April 1st – Everything must be in by April 1 –Based on income –low income students with a 3.0 GPA and 19 ACT will be given additional consideration

NEXT BIG THING Scholarship – due Feb 28

BUICK ACHIEVERS SCHOLARSHIP – Seniors who are enrolling full time at a 4 year university who plan to major in a field of study that focuses on engineering, technology, design or business, with an interest in the automotive industry. Deadline is Feb 28th. these are $25,000 scholarships

Coca-Cola Centennial Scholarship

In celebration of Chattanooga Coca-Cola’s 100th Birthday, the Coca-Cola Centennial Scholarship Fund was established in March 1999. According to the terms of the scholarship, preference will be given to graduating high school seniors from Chattanooga, TN. The scholarship is awarded on the basis of academic eligibility and financial need. The award amount ranges from $500-$1,000 for each academic year. All scholarships are renewable for a total of four academic years based on satisfactory progress towards a degree.

Eligibility

  • Graduating high school senior in Hamilton County, TN
  • Cumulative grade point average of at least 2.7
  • Plans to attend a regionally accredited, non proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university. The school does not have to be in Chattanooga or the state of Tennessee.

The Mary Adams Memorial Scholarship Fund was established by a bequest from the late Mary Adams for the purpose of providing scholarship grants to students beginning undergraduate study at colleges or universities. According to the terms of the bequest, students shall be selected on the basis of financial need and academic ability, with preference given to minority students to the extent permitted by law.

The Harold Cheney Cash & Ellen Lewis Cash Scholarship Fund was established by a bequest from the estate of Ellen Lewis Cash. The funds are to be used for scholarships for undergraduate and post-graduate study. Preference shall be given to students attending Vanderbilt University or Georgia Tech. Preference shall also be given to students in co-operative educational programs. The Cash Scholarships are awarded on the basis of academic ability and financial need.

Most scholarship grants range from $1,000 to $3,000 for each academic year. All scholarships are renewable annually for a total of four years based on satisfactory progress toward a degree.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a dependent child of an eligible City of Chattanooga Police officer
  • Applicant must not be older than 23 years old upon the application deadline
  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university in the next academic year or be a full-time (carrying at least 12 semester hours) college student attending a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university anticipating the continuation of study in the next academic year
  • Applicant must have a high school or college grade point average of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale

Edgar M. Jolley, Sr. Memorial Scholarship Fund

The Edgar M. Jolley Sr. (EMJ) Memorial Scholarship was established in 2007 to provide assistance to children of eligible employees* of the EMJ Corporation to complete an undergraduate education in any discipline area. The goal of the EMJ Memorial Scholarship Fund is to promote academic excellence and provide an opportunity for students with academic ability, community involvement and financial need to reach their fullest potential.

Eligibility

  • Applicant must be a dependent child of an eligible employee* of EMJ Corporation
  • Applicant must not be older than 23 years old upon the application deadline
  • Applicant must be a graduating high school senior planning to attend a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university in the next academic year or be a full-time (carrying at least 12 semester hours) college student attending a regionally accredited, non-proprietary, technical, community or four year college/university anticipating the continuation of study in the next academic year
  • Applicant must have a high school or college grade point average of at least a 2.5 on a 4.0 scale
