4 DAYSROAD TRIP TO SAN FRANCISCO

You are to compute the cost of a car trip to San Francisco from Los Angeles. The trip is to last 4 days and 3 nights. You will have to compute the cost of Hotels/Motels (including tax), gasoline for the car, restaurants (including tip)/ fast food/ groceries (including tax)) for all food and drink costs, places that you need to visit, and gifts (including tax).

Your project will consist of 2 parts.

Part A should be a written daily account with

  • a precise timetable of your trip (what time you had breakfast, what time you took the road, when you stopped and so on…)
  • a detailed description of your day (where you had breakfast, # of miles traveled, name and website address of hotel, name of places you have visited or had a meal and location, name and location of grocery stores or gift shops you have visited, when you have refueled etc…)
  • an accurate computation of all the costs of that day (including taxes and tip when needed).

No fictional places or prices should be used. Use the internet and look up the name of places (example name of hotel, description of the room and the price) including any specific description and price.

SOME NUMBERSand INFORMATIONYOU WILL NEED TO USE: sale tax is 9% of your total purchase; you are required to tip 15% of your restaurant bill. The fuel tank of your car is 18 gallons, and the car is a hybrid and its consumption is 40 miles/ gallon. You need to use Google map to compute the number of miles you have traveled that day to calculate the cost of fuel, print the Google map page for each day and highlight the road you have taken. Price of gas is $3.00/gallon

LIST OF DAILY ACTIVITIES REQUIRED DURING THE TRIP.

DAY 1: DO NOT FORGET TO SPECIFY THE TIME EACH ACTIVITY STARTS AND ENDS.

  • Departure from LA, you will be taking US highway 101.Specify if you are alone or with a friend.
  • Stop in Santa Barbara where you will eat lunch in a restaurant of your choice in the tourist area ( give name and website address, and pricesdon’t forget the taxes and tip)
  • Visit the Santa Barbaramission after lunch and where you will buy gifts for your family or souvenirs for yourself. Use their website for entrance or tour cost as well as the gift store where you can find the prices of the different gifts you will buy, remember taxes.
  • Drive to San Simeon where you will be spending the night in a hotel (give name, website address and room description and cost)
  • Do not forget the number of miles you have driven and fuel cost.
  • Do not forget to include the cost any additional expenses like groceries, or anything else you fancy. (Remember you need to account for 3 meals a day).
  • Also do not forget the Google map with the highlighted portion of the trip of that day.

DAY2: DO NOT FORGET TO SPECIFY THE TIME EACH ACTIVITY STARTS AND ENDS.

  • Do not forget breakfast.
  • Visit the HearstCastle of San Simeon. (time, entrance cost, gifts/souvenir see the website, do not forget taxes on gifts)
  • Do not forget to eat lunch (it could be a sandwich in the car, some fruits or candies)
  • After your visit you will resume your trip on the US 101, at San Luis Obispo you will merge into the scenic route Highway 1
  • Stop to have dinner at the very well know Nepenthe restaurant of Big Sur. (do not forget the taxes and to tip look at their website for their menu and prices, you can also purchase gift from their stores do not forget the taxes).
  • Then drive on to Carmel-by-the-sea where you will pick a hotel(name, website address, room description and cost)
  • Do not forget the number of miles you have driven and fuel cost, as well as any miscellaneous (like groceries or anything your heart fancies).
  • Also do not forget the Google map of that day.

DAY3: DO NOT FORGET TO SPECIFY THE TIME EACH ACTIVITY STARTS AND ENDS.

  • Breakfast might be included in room cost, mention it if you make use of it.
  • Drive to Monterey (Highway 1) where you will visit their famous aquarium. (include entrance cost and gift/souvenir expenses + taxes)
  • Have lunch in a fast-food (no tip required, don’t forget taxes).
  • Keep on driving to San Francisco on the US 101 highway.
  • Use a restaurant in China town (best known in the country). Include tax and tip. (I need the website address, name etc…).
  • Find a fancy Hotel in the Fisherman’s Wharf area. (name, website address, prices etc…)
  • Do not forget the number of miles you have driven and fuel cost, as well as any miscellaneous (like groceries or anything your heart fancies).
  • Also do not forget the Google map of that day.

DAY 4: DO NOT FORGET TO SPECIFY THE TIME EACH ACTIVITY STARTS AND ENDS.

  • Breakfast.
  • Pick one tourist place to visit of your choice. Describe it and include all required information. Do not forget the gifts and entrance cost if any.
  • Chose a place to have lunch. Include all required information.
  • Drive back to Los Angeles no later then 3:00 PM. Take the Highway 5. The trip back should take 7 hours with a quick rest stop.
  • Do not forget the number of miles you have driven and fuel cost, as well as any miscellaneous (like groceries or anything your heart fancies).
  • Also do not forget the Google map of that day.

Each day should be started on a separate page. (Use an average of one page/day typed single spaced). The format SHOULD be bullet form, and highlight all the type of expenses with the dollar amount.

Part B: Last, but not least on a separate page I need a table summarizing the expenses with totals.

5 POINTS FOR EACH DAY.

  • 1 points for describing the day with all required information, and a correct time schedule.
  • 1 point for computing the miles and cost of fuel with the Google map.
  • 1 point for computing correctly the cost of all the expenses of that day.
  • 1 point for including the taxes and the tip as required.
  • 1 point for organization of work and structure.

5 POINTS FOR THE SUMMARY TABLE.

  • 1 point for using the correct table (same as given).
  • 2 points for filling in the table with the correct expenses.
  • 1 point for filling the correct totals.
  • 1 point for the correct trip total.

DAY 1: a day at Disneyland, Anaheim with my 2 daughters 8 and 12years old.

  1. 9:30 am left for Disneyland:
  1. 2.4 miles (about 8 minutes) from home to the restaurant
  2. 34 miles (about 45 minutes) from the restaurant to Disneyland.
  3. 34.2 miles (about 46 minutes) back home.

Total is 70.6 miles giving a consumption of 1.765 gallons. The average price of a gallon is 4 dollars making the fuel price for the trip at 7.06 dollars.

  1. 10: 15 am we arrived at Disneyland ( )
  • Tickets cost 74 dollars for my younger daughter, and 80 dollars for me and my other daughter. Total is 234 dollars.
  • For lunch we had Worl of Color Picnic at the Sonoma Terrace . Price for the picnic meal is $15.99 (including tax) bringing the total to $47.97
  • We bought from the souvenir gifts store a Disney Princess Figure Play Set on sale at 9.00 and Tangled Rapunzel Figure Play Set at 12.50. A subtotal of 21.50, taxes is 1.90 which brings the total to 23.40 dollars.
  • Dinner we had pizza and pasta at the which is located inside the park. The price averaged 15/person including taxes or a total of 45 dollars no gratuity is requiredbecause it is a self-serve place.

TOTAL at Disneyland was $350.37

  1. At 8:00 we left Disneyland for our way home.

ALTERNATIVE TRIP TO LOS VEGAS

3 NIGHTS AND 4 DAYS

DAY 1: Departure to Los Vegas in one day. Make sure you compute the cost of gas for that day.

3 NIGHTS in Los Vegas. You need to adhere to the following requirements:

  • You spend every night in a different hotel. Every hotel has a different theme. Pick 3 of your choice.
  • Every evening you are attending a show. Pick 3 of your liking. Include Ticket prices, fees if any, gift/souvenir if available.
  • You have to have at least 2 meals in a restaurant per day for all 4 days. Be aware some places serve a buffet.
  • Breakfast might be included in your room price. Specify if so.
  • Make sure you buy one gift or souvenir per day
  • If you need to take a taxi include the cost

DAY 4 you will be driving back to LA, do include the cost of the gas for the trip back.
