FUEL PRICE REPORT MAY 2007
Although crude oil prices have hung between $65 and $68 per barrel over the past month, petrol prices have continued to rise strongly. Much of this has resulted from a shortage in the US, with gasoline stocks hitting a six-year low at the start of the month. The situation in Nigeria remains unstable and there are concerns about cuts in oil production, following the protests there.
Nationally, Unleaded priceshave risen by 3.1p per litre to 95.9ppl. Diesel prices have also increased, by 1.7ppl to 96.8ppl. The price difference between Unleaded and Diesel has fallen from 2.3ppl in April to 0.9ppl in May.
Walesrecorded the highest price for Unleaded at 96.5ppl followed bythe South West at 96.3ppl. Londonrecorded the lowest price at 95.5ppl. Walesrecorded the highest Diesel prices at 97.3ppl, followed byEast Anglia, the South West and Scotlandat 97.1ppl. The North Weststill has the cheapest Diesel at 96.2ppl.
Supermarket prices for Unleadedalso rose over the month by 3.6ppl to 94.8ppl. The gap between supermarket prices and the UK average for Unleaded has fallen to 1.1ppl (last month the difference was 1.6ppl).
Overseas prices have also risen. The UK has the seventhhighest Unleaded price in Europe.
