MARGARET FUNKE OMIDIRE - SYNOPSIS

STATEMENT

Funke’s experience in education spans about 20 years working with learners in different capacities such as teaching, research, education project management as well as guidance and counselling in Lagos, Nigeria; London, UK and South Africa.Her research interests centre on multiplicity of languages in education and issues of psychological well-being of learners/teachers/parents affected. She has engaged in studies focused on language, literacy,assessment, learning and wellbeing. She is involved with multilingual teacher support in literacy with postgraduates in funded studies with national (Prof. Liesel Ebersöhn) and international (Prof Karen Murphy (PSU) and Prof Deslea Konza, ECU) scholars.

Funke completed her postdoctoral fellowship in the ERA Unit, Department of Educational Psychology in 2012. She serves on the Ethics Committee and is also part of the team working on the following projects:

  • Quality Talk South Africa (QTSA) Project in collaboration with the Pennsylvania State University and the Centre for the Study of Resilience, University of Pretoria
  • International Mentoring of Advanced Graduates for Interdisciplinary Excellence (IMAGINE) Project: A collaboration between the ERA Unit, Department of Educational Psychology, University of Pretoria and North Carolina State University, USA
  • Flourishing Learning Youth (FLY): A collaboration between the ERA Unit, Department of Educational Psychology, University of Pretoria and the Fogarty Learning Centre, Australia
