Post Title: Hero Fund Manager
Responsible to: Chief Executive
Background
The work of the Hero Fund is to recognise acts of civilian heroism and provide financial and emotional support where appropriate to families. The scope of the Fund covers the UK, Ireland and the Channel Islands.
The position of Hero Fund Manager is a discrete post within the overall Carnegie Dunfermline and Hero Fund Trusts, is based in Dunfermline and involves occasional travel within the geographic scope of the Fund. Over the year there is engagement with around 120 families and recognition of up to six cases per year. Some intensive support is required periodically.
Principal duties
Support of families and individuals by telephone, email, visits, letters, etc. – also newsletters, calendars, Christmas cards
Facilitation of third party support local to families where appropriate
Advocacy on behalf of families (ie in cases of financial difficulties)
Annual financial/beneficiary review and recommendations
Assessing, scheduling and making variable payments of grants
Full reports to the Board and support committee
Maintenance of file records
Online and other searches for potential cases with follow up through rescue agencies and legal services – occasional meetings in this context
Full arrangements for presentations – citation, Roll of Honour, speeches, booking, travel, etc.
Responding to and researching historic cases and dealing with related enquiries
Involvement with other international Hero Funds.
Skills and competencies
Experience of working with distressed individuals in complex situations
Telephone support/counselling skills
Experienced financial and IT literacy
Ability to plan and manage annual work schedule
Organisational skills
Adaptability when meeting in family homes
Driving license
Person specification
Non-judgemental, calm and empathetic
Awareness of bereavement issues
Willingness to travel (occasionally) for two days at a time
Terms of post
Flexible hours of 23 per week.
Occasional travel.
Salary pro rata to £32,400 p.a.
Contributory pension.
Annual leave pro rata to 25 days p.a.
