My Dear Friends,

As you know I have been traveling a lot lately on seminary business: to Boynton Beach; to Tucson; and to Rome. Last Sunday after Masses here I met with the Archbishop who told me that he had received a call from the papal nuncio, the Holy Father’s representative to the United States government. The nunciature was looking for a priest to work there. On Tuesday I went to Washington to meet Archbishop Vigano. I will take up my post around March 7th. That means I will leave both the seminary and my beloved Sacred Heart. I will have all the Masses on March 5-6.

As you know, when I was appointed, it was to be for 1-3 years, with the priests of the Oratory likely taking over after my term. I hoped for more time, but this is what God gave us. I am grateful for the time we shared. In a short time we have restored the organ, stained glass windows, and steeple. The stoves for the ravioli dinners will be replaced. The whole parish contributed to a successful capital campaign. Our Mass attendance and collections are up across the board. The number of weddings and baptisms has been tremendous. All of this is the result of God’s grace at work in you.

I am sad that I will not get to spend Holy Week and Easter with you. I will not be the administrator when Alex McCullough is ordained to the priesthood or when our young people make First Communion or Confirmation. I will miss you dearly and I love you dearly. It has not been an easy undertaking to do all my jobs at the seminary and run a parish, but it has been a labor of love. I will never forget you. This parish means the world to me. I hope and pray that long after I am gone, you are still here professing the faith of our fathers. Everything has happened so quickly, but I hope to have a few more details by next week. I also urge you to come to our parish mission next week. Thank you … for everything!

Yours in the Sacred Heart of Jesus,

Fr. Fernandes

LENTEN MISSION – MERCIFUL LIKE THE FATHER: THE PRESENCE AND CLOSENESS OF GOD From February 26-28, Fr. Richard Veras will preach our parish mission. Fr. Veras, a priest of the Archdiocese of New York, is the Director of Pastoral Formation at St. Joseph Seminary (Dunwoodie) in Yonkers, New York. He has served as a priest in parishes and high schools and as pastor of St. Rita's Parish on Staten Island. Father Veras is the NY Chaplain for the Lay Ecclesial Movement Communion and Liberation. He is the author of two books: Jesus of Israel: Finding Christ in the Old Testament and Wisdom for Everyday Life From the Book of Revelation. He is a regular contributor to Magnificat magazine. He will preach at all the Masses that weekend and give an extended homily at the Mass following Stations of the Cross on Friday and two talks on Saturday, with Mass at 11:30. Confession will be available. Please invite family members, friends and anyone you might think will be interested.

Help Keep Church Clean Bill Kleiner, our maintenance man, will be out for a few weeks. A small group of volunteers from Communion and Liberation has agreed to clean church as a charitable work. Please put kneelers up; make sure hymnals and missalettes are placed horizontally in the racks; take bulletins home with you or if you see a bulletin or Latin Mass booklet left behind, please return it to one of the tables. Thank you.

Ravioli Dinner The next Italian dinner will be held on Palm Sunday, March 20. Frozen Ravioli will be made on March 5-6.

Volunteers Needed In addition to workers for the dinner itself, we are in need of volunteers to help stuff envelopes with letters, raffle tickets, and return envelopes for our bulk mailing for the dinner. Please call the rectory this week if you are able to help. Thank you.

WEDDING BANNS 2nd banns: Angela Iacobucci is to marry Jereny Aronow on Saturday, March 5, 2016.

“PREGNANCY CENTER WEST would like to thank all who participated in our recent Baby Bottle Campaign. The funds ($920.52) you contributed will help us provide life-affirming guidance and services to women facing untimely pregnancies. May God bless you for your generosity and commitment to the culture of life.”
