Help Your HealthProject Officer

Part time: 18 hrs per week

Job Description

Pay scale: £26,706- £30,741 (inclusive of OLW Allowance) pro rata per annum for 18 hours (actual initial starting pay £13,735 for 18 hrs)

PURPOSE OF THE POST

The post will help to deliver the Help Your Health Project across Ealing and Hounslow.

The Big Lottery Fund has awarded funds for a 3 yearHelp Your Health Project in Ealing and Hounslow. This project aims to empower local residents to improve their own health and reduce local health inequalities. It has four strands:

  • supportingrecruitment and training of new volunteer Community Health Leaders and Community Health Champions.
  • one to one support to assist people with long term health conditions to take up new volunteering
  • supporting BME groups to develop ‘better health’ information to their users
  • supporting community groups working with newly arrived residents to spread awareness of UK health services

The project will build on successful pilots in Ealing and extend into Hounslow

The new Officer will work as part of a team within ECVS to deliver the new project. The other members of the ECVS team will be the Volunteer Centre Manager, Training Manager and Training Assistant

In addition the targets in Hounslow for supporting volunteers with long term health conditions to take up volunteering will be delivered via a partnership agreement with Volunteer Centre Hounslow

We are now recruiting aHelp Your Health ProjectOfficer who will develop and implement project plans. This post will mainly be located within the ECVS Office but will also need to work out of our office base in Hounslow

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Act as first point of contact for the project through face to face, telephone and email queries.
  • Help to recruit and coordinate a network of 45 Community Health Leaders (15 per year) and 150 Community Health Champions (50 per year).

Provide support to Health Leaders and Champions so they can plan and run their own events promoting better health.

  • Working in partnership with Volunteering Hounslow, support 150 people with long term physical/mental health conditions in to volunteering roles (50 per year). The post-holder will be responsible for the Ealing targets, which are 25 a year.
  • Help new volunteers with long term health conditions who wish to return to employment - including assistance in CV writing and interview skills
  • Support work with BMER community groups to spread better health messages to their users (10 groups per year).
  • Support work with community groups working with newly arrived residents to spread awareness of UK health systems (12 community groups over the whole project, reaching 4,000 newly arrived residents over the length of the project)
  • Help to develop relationships with potential referral agencies – e.g. local Job Centres, West London Mental Health Trust and specialist VCS groups-to signpost people with long term health conditions into volunteering
  • Help to develop a marketing and communications plan to support the project and generate publicity material, including designing and uploading content to the ECVS website and other relevant publications
  • Support Operations and Steering Group meetings including progress reports, papers, agendas and minutes (with assistance from the Training Assistant)
  • Help to collate and analyse monitoring and evaluation data from all project streams
  • Help to supply information for funder monitoring reports
  • Be an active member of the ECVS team through support tasks such as cover and meeting attendance

OTHER DUTIES

  • Assist in developing and organising events
  • Undertake other related project duties as may be required
  • There may be potential for professional development in delivering training sessions or leading workshop events

MANAGEMENT AND SUPPPORT

The post holder will be employed by Ealing CVS and supervised and managed by the Volunteer Centre Manager. The post holder will participate in regular supervisions with their line manager. An individual induction and training plan will be agreed.

TERMS AND CONDITIONS

The post holder will be employed for 18 hours per week. £26,706- £30,741 (inclusive of OLW Allowance) pro rata per annum for 18 hours (£13,735).

The post holder will be entitled to 28 days’ annual leave pro rata in addition to bank holidays. A flexible hour’s scheme will operate (subject to the demands of the service) and the post holder will be expected to attend occasional evening and weekend meetings. Time off in lieu or additional hours will be offered for any additional hours worked.

The post holder will be employed on contract until 31stMarch 2020.

The post is subject to a six month probationary period. ECVS offers staff access to a stakeholder pension scheme with up to 3% matching employer contribution following successful completion of the probationary period.

PERSONAL SPECIFICATION

Essential

  • Ability to develop and implement project plans
  • Ability to collate and analyse basic statistical information as well as developing and implementing monitoring procedures with associated tools
  • Experience in working in partnership projects
  • Experience of supporting volunteers
  • Experience of working with BMER groups or residents
  • Experience of organising local events
  • Excellent organisation and communication (verbal and written) skills
  • Good IT skills including using Microsoft Office packages Word, Excel, Power Point and Outlook)
  • Experience of collating and analysing project information
  • Knowledge of the voluntary sector

Desirable

  • Understanding of diverse population of Ealing and Hounslow boroughs including hard to reach communities
  • Awareness of UK health systems and services
  • Awareness of how long term ill health can affect people wishing to volunteer or return to employment
  • Experience of creating publicity materials,maintaining websitesand maintaining social media accounts
  • Knowledge of databases (we use V-base Cloud and Salesforce)- we can provide training if needed
