1.3  Club Website

1.4  Emails/phones

Email is the chosen form of communication by the committee to all parents (via website and to coaches, managers and committee by individual emails.

2  REGISTRATIONS

By the time you begin your duties as Team Coach/Manager all Registrations matters should be resolved. However there may be a few areas where you need to be involved. Eg. Registering a player through the year & obtaining a birth certificate. If a player has not previously played with the SSJCA a copy/extract of the birth certificate is required before the player can participate.

If this was not provided at registration it must be arranged before the player can play in any competition match. Please deal directly with the Registrar in relation to all registration matters.

Please refer to the clubs Registration and Gradings policy.

3  TEAM TRAINING & PRACTICE

Team Training is an important part of being a Team member. It will assist all players to fulfil their potential & assist in creating team spirit.

Managers & Coaches should require all Team members to attend practice even when it may be that player's turn to miss the game on the following Saturday. Obviously there will be unforeseen circumstances that may mean players will miss practice.

Training facilities and times are organised with the committee and other coaches prior to the season start and are Monday to Friday 4pm to 7pm with some exceptions. We have our own net facility plus Heathcote East public school nets available. We do have the use of Heathcote oval which we share with Engadine and all available facilities are shared between our Junior and Senior teams.

Please ensure your read Section 5 of the SSJCA regulations re ‘duty of care.’ All practice sessions conducted by the club must incorporate the duty of care regulations.

Injuries at scheduled team training sessions are covered by the SSJCA Inc insurance arrangements & should be reported direct to the Club Secretary. Ensure you record appropriate details & complete the necessary forms as soon as possible. Forms will be supplied by the club.

.

Sometimes it is difficult to know whether training will be on due to inclement weather. It is therefore best to set down the details about training for your team at the beginning of the season. If there is doubt on the evening of training, all players should assume that training is on and go to the field unless otherwise advised.

On completion of training, players should not be left without being in the presence/supervision of an adult. Ensure all families are aware of arrangements for Training in relation to

·  time

·  location

·  transport if needed

·  wet weather arrangements

4  GEAR

4.1  Standard Equipment

Each season the Gear Steward will provide each Manager with a Team Kit.

The contents of each kit would normally be:

1 kit bag

4 bats

10 practice balls (approx)

3 wickets or a fixed wicket

3 bails

4 pairs of batting gloves 3RH/1LH

1 pair wicket keeping gloves

3 protectors

4 pairs of pads

8 cones for boundary markers

1 ball counter (ie. "clicker")

Chalk

4.2  Match Day

Also bring to matches - Large broom, bucket, spade (you may need these for adverse weather conditions.

·  Ensure the kit is always available and complete

·  Always report any breakages to the Club’s Gear Steward

·  Always ensure the kit is packed in total after training & the game.(count the balls)

·  If the need arises for any new equipment including cricket balls contact the Gear Steward.

·  Why not arrange for a parent to supervise the kit at matches??

·  Why not arrange team members to be responsible for packing away the gear & ensuring that the gear is kept in good condition??

4.3  Maintenance

At current day prices the value of the above equipment would exceed $700. It is therefore both the Manager's & players’ responsibility to ensure that the equipment is well looked after. It is important to encourage all players to look after their own gear AND the Club gear. Note that U/8 kits contain a fixed wicket in place of individual stumps with a cheaper kit.

If any gear becomes unusable or looks as though it needs repair or replacement please contact the Gear Steward (see earlier in this Manual for the Gear Steward details) so that arrangements can be made. Get minor problems repaired as soon as possible so that they do not become irreparable.

Gear is to be returned to the Gear Steward as soon as possible after the end of the season. Notice will be given of the time & place for returns, both in the club newsletter and Club Meetings. Kits should not be used for other than Club activities without the express permission of the Committee.

Some useful hints:

·  Keep gear confined at practice & matches to guard against gear being left behind / stolen. Try to arrange for a parent to be responsible for the kit & organise players to pack the kit after practice & matches.

·  Keep equipment as dry as possible

·  Do not leave kits packed away wet... spread them out to dry as soon as possible.

·  Do not allow pads / bats to be used as cushions on wet or rocky ground.

PLEASE NOTE THE FOLLOWING:-

One of the greatest expenses in running our Teams is that of cricket balls.

Consider that at least one ball is used in each match.

We also supply a number of practice balls to begin the season.

Please ensure that once a ball is used in a match that it is then used for practice.

This means that at the end of the season a reasonable number of balls should be returned with the kit for issue as practice balls next season.

5  MATCH – DAY RELATED INFORMATION

5.1  General

If you have any problems on Match Day with the understanding of the Laws, SSJCA rules etc, please try on the first occasion to obtain the information by reading the relevant rule or checking with the opposition Coach/Manager. If you are still unsure please check with the club Competition Secretary – Mr Tom Croucher 0402 412 061 who can assist you to seek clarification on rules.

Ensure all families are aware of arrangements for Match day

·  time

·  location

·  transport

·  wet weather arrangements

·  Player availability - find out early who will be unavailable -holidays etc and set up register to record details

5.2  Wet Weather Procedures

To save any confusion you should make sure all your players & parents are aware of the location of the Council Ground "open/closed" signs relevant to the fields you are allocated to play on.. These signs are located at the main entrance to each ground near the various clubhouses. NB: They relate to training activities only, NOT TO MATCHES (see later).

In the absence of advice from the Association/Competition or Club Secretary prior to commencement the Coach/Manager MUST assume that the match is on. This means that the team must be at the rostered ground at the appointed time, & the decision to play or not THEN rests with Team Coach/Managers or in older grades the captain (obviously on advice from the Coach.

If an official umpire is in attendance the decision to play will be his/her decision alone. If not the Coach/Managers must decide if conditions are safe for play. If they both agree unsafe then play will be called off. If they disagree, both teams shall remain at the ground, & should make further inspections.

If, after half the playing time has elapsed & the Coach/Managers still cannot agree play shall be abandoned for the day. This means that the team NOT wanting to play has the controlling hand. Bear in mind the object is to play so every effort should be made to get on the field. (take clean up gear eg broom buckets spades and mops)

DO NOT BE INTIMIDATED!

ALWAYS CONSIDER THE SAFETY OF YOUR PLAYERS

NOTE: NEVER toss until a decision has been made as to whether play is to commence.

You should also note that cricket is not called off just because the "Ground Closed" sign is up when you arrive. The arrangement with Sutherland Council is that we ignore the sign. It is then up to the umpire or the two managers/coaches to determine whether the conditions will permit play to start.

Note that both sides should make an effort to prepare the ground for play. SSJCA (& your committee) considers it poor sportsmanship to sit back & allow the other side to "mop up" in an effort to get the game started, particularly when it is done with a view of denying the other side the opportunity to win. SSJCA expects all clubs to behave in this manner & would like to hear of any situation where one side does not cooperate when a little effort is necessary to get the game started.

5.3  On Arrival At The Ground

Arrive early at the game to ensure all is in readiness at the commencement of play:

Cones must be properly positioned... arrange for a parent to be in charge of cone placement

stumps to be correctly set up

take a broom to matches so that the pitch can be swept clean if necessary

make sure that the scorer set up ready to begin at the start of play

make sure rubbish / broken bottles etc are removed from field before start of play (please inspect as a requirement of duty of care)

during play make sure that all runs smoothly and ensure next batters are padded up ready to take the field.

5.4  Field Set Up

5.4.1  Boundaries and Cones.

Boundaries shall be agreed upon by the opposing Managers before the toss is made. The boundary is an imaginary straight line joining the boundary cones placed no more than 20 metres apart.

Each team is responsible for the provision and placement of 10 cones. Make arrangements that one of the parents looks after this aspect of the set-up. It makes good sense for the same two people to agree on cone placement on each day of the match so that all is equitable.

The recommendation is that the cones should be placed as far as possible considering the field being played on.

·  Under 8 - 30 metres

·  Under 10 - 40 metres

·  Under 12 - 45 metres
