RULES, COMPONENTS OR PROCEDURES SPECIFICALLY NOT MENTIONED AS BEING ALLOWED AREILLEGALUNLESS APPROVED AHEAD OF TIME BY THE BLACK HILLS MINI SPRINT TOUR TECHINAL DIRECTOR AND RACE DIRECTOR.

ENGINES

·  4 cycle air cooled, single cylinder engines, not exceeding 600cc are allowed, any modification will be allowed.

·  2 cycle engines up to 600cc out of bike single or dual cylinder are allowed.

·  Out of town cars up to 750cc stock, must run and bring a copy of their rules.

·  All 2 cycle engines and out of town cars will be evaluated by BHMST Tech Director. After one race the car and rules will be reviewed and evaluated to make sure competitive balance is kept within the BHMST.

·  If a car shows up to race and that driver notifies the BHMST that it is non-compliant to the rules, the BHMST Race Director will take a consensus of the competitors, and if the majority of the group does not object, he/she will be allowed to race on a temporary basis. The car will start at the rear of each race, will receive “show-up points, but will not receive any points and/or money for competing. In addition, any competitor that finishes behind the non-compliant car will move up in scoring position as if the non-compliant car was not there.

E-1) Terms and conditions 2012 thru 2015

a) If a change or modification to the stock engine or its parts is not included in these rules then the modification is considered legal.

b) The word “Stock” means unmodified factory original parts or components that came with the original engine.

E-2) Overall Engine 2008 and earlier

a) No limited production race motors allowed. Must be a USA market production motorcycle engine, 4 cylinders, 4 stroke

a1) This applies to all OEM references herein.

b) No 2006 and up R6R (all black) Yamaha 600cc engines

b1) no variable-length intake system (YCC-I)

c) No titanium anywhere in or on the engine, unless it comes stock from manufacturer of engine on the production bike

d) Must have engine, clutch, and transmission all in one unit

e) Must be Chain Drive

E-3) Bore and stroke

a) 600cc maximum displacement

b) Stock original stroke and bore only

c) Must use stock pistons and stock piston rings

c1)2003(carb) and older engines; 620cc

NOTE: Grandfather claus; 2003 engines running on carbs fall into this group. 2003 on injection do not. This applies through-out the entire rule format.

E-4) Head and cams

a) NO PORTING of intake or exhaust runners.

a. Valve jobs, valve grinding, valve seating, valve seal modification and valve seat cutting are allowed.

b. Valve seat inserts may be reworked or replaced with any seat of original dimensions. Any dimensional thickness of the stock inserts may not be increased. Valve seats can be ground with multiple angles. Blending of the valve seat into the head is permitted but

cannot extend more than ¼” into the aluminum head measured from where the seat meets the head.

b) OEM Head only.

c) Stock cams only. (as came with that engine)

d) Stock valves only

e) No slotted cam gears

f) No cutting or milling of head or block

g) Stock head gasket must be used

h) 2003 and older engines (on carbs): stock valve size, any porting ok, any OEM stock cam from any year ok. Slotted cam gears OK. Head milling ok. Any head gasket ok. Any piston OK.

E-5) Bottom End

a) No machining to remove weight from the crank (balancing of crank is ok) (no after-market cranks) (no lightweight cranks)

b) No after-market connecting rods. Must use stock factory connecting rods.

E-7) Ignition

a) No aftermarket ignition systems, must use factory Stock or factory racing ECU, No hot ECU boxes, no physically modified ECU boxes. Factory race boxes are ok, but must have the rev limit set to the street bike stock rev limit. Stock Rev Limiter must remain intact at all times (ex: no switched or gear specific limiters). All stock engine management hardware must be used, any software or Power Commander type device may be used to manage stock components. See specifications list for RPM limits. (ie: Hyper Racing)

b) All cars 2003(inj.) and newer must have the U6SA standard RPM connector for the track to check engine rpm rev limit. These are available from the chassis manufactures (hyper) and engine builders, or at the track. All cars must leave intact the rpm wire coming from the ECU.

c) May use different year ignitions from same manufacturer as long as stock rev limit of engine (not ignition) is retained.

d) No aftermarket coils

e) No gear position sensor may be used. The sensor may be in place on the engine, but can not have any wires connected to it; going to the ECU. Gear position wire from ECU may not be switchable. Neutral lights are OK.

f) No traction control device.

g) No more than one ECU box present in or on car. (Power Commander type devices are OK.)

h) A 50 rpm over rev tolerance for the purpose of tech inspection is acceptable. (Note: this does not mean you can turn up the rpms in any ECU by any amount)

i) 2003 (on carbs)and older, any and all ignition systems are legal. (any rev. limit OK) There is no need for a U6SA standard RPM Connector on these motors.

E-8) Air Induction system

a) No mechanically forced induction (turbo charging, supercharging)

b) Any OEM, 600cc, 4 cylinder, 4stroke, standard production USA market motorcycle carburetors may be used on any engine, regardless of year of engine.

a. Note: Switching to carburetors on engines that came with fuel injection usually increases the rev limiter due to the removal of the injectors as the ECU cuts fuel to limit rpm’s before it cuts the ignition. A reflash of the ECU will be required if using carburetors in order to comply with the rev limit rule 7.a)
