Job title:Health Promotion Manager
Reporting to:Deputy Head of Health Information
Division:Health Information Department
Location:WCRF UK, 22 Bedford Square, London WC1B 3HH
Hours:37.5hrs/week – full time
Duration:1 year contract, with the possibility of extension
Salary:£28,000, plus benefits
Purpose of Post
To evaluate, develop and oversee the implementation of WCRF UK’s health promotion projects, including our outreach work with workplaces, health professionals, the general public, children and families.
This post reports to the Deputy Head of Health Information and has line management of the Health Information Assistant (HIA).
The post holder will be based in the WCRF UK London office but will visit relevant contacts, deliver workshops, and attend conferences and events as necessary.
A. Line management
●Supporting, motivating and managing the HIA including reviewing and managing performance
●Setting and monitoring objectives and overseeing the work carried out by the HIA
●Liaising with team members to review and manage the HIA’s workload
B. Health promotion projects - general management
●Assessing the effectiveness of our current initiatives and thinking strategically about their development and target audiences
●Defining outputs and outcomes for our health promotion projects and managing the delivery and reporting on these
●Working with colleagues to identify, research and establish a WCRF UK behaviour change project(s) that will help address cancer risk factors
●Developing health promotion resources and delivering presentations for hard-to-reach groups or new audiences as and when appropriate
●Identifying and managing opportunities to develop partnership, collaboration and joint initiatives with key bodies where this is advantageous in the achievement of WCRF UK’s strategic objectives
●Setting and managing annual budgets for all outreach work
C. Key focus 1 - workplace health
●Reviewing WCRF UK’s workplace health resources and web section and making recommendations on how these can be improved and maximised
●Developing a healthy workplace ‘award’ or accreditation to complement our ‘How healthy is your workplace?’ audit tool
●Developing additional activities for our healthy living workshop for workplaces and creating a workshop ‘toolkit’
●Delivering workshops and other workplace-related events as necessary
●Marketing our workplace health resources and maximising engagement among target audiences
●Working collaboratively with the Fundraising team to build contacts, case studies and strong relationships with companies who have used our workplace health resources
D. Key focus 2 - health professionals
●Researching and identifying key audiences, geographical locations and potential partners for our training for health professionals
●Reviewing our existing cancer prevention workshops for health professionals and making recommendations on how these can be improved and maximised
●Delivering workshops and other health professional-related events as necessary
●Developing and piloting a regional cancer prevention event for health professionals
●Evaluating the success and reach of the event and making recommendations on the effectiveness of this approach
E. General
●Overseeing all organisational tasks associated with booking, attending and evaluating conferences, with support from the HIA
●Providing support and guidance to the development and delivery of the outreach aspects of our children’s programme, the Great Grub Club (GGC)
●Being an ambassador for WCRF UK, representing the organisation and raising awareness of our cancer prevention message
●Undertaking any other tasks as directed by the Deputy Head of Health Information or Head of Health Information

Experience
●Proven experience of working within the health promotion field
●Proven experience of managing and delivering settings-based health promotion projects
●Experience of setting health promotion strategic objectives
●Experience of working/networking/developing partnerships with other organisations
●Proven experience of managing projects from conception through to delivery
●Experience of planning and monitoring budgets
●Proven experience of supervising or line managing staff (including setting
objectives, motivating staff, performance management)
●Proven experience of developing and delivering presentations
Skills and Knowledge
●Project management skills
●Knowledge of the impact of nutrition, physical activity and weight on health, and skilled at communicating this knowledge to a range of audiences
●An understanding of public health issues and how raising awareness and promoting behaviour change can improve health
●Good research and analytical skills

●Ability to monitor, evaluate and report on projects/ programmes ensuring targets are met, dealing with any challenges that may occur

Qualifications
●Educated to degree level or equivalent, ideally in nutrition, dietetics, public health or health promotion
