LEO BURNETT WORLDWIDE

25TH ANNUAL CANNES PREDICTIONS

An annual bellwether for success at the Cannes Lions Advertising Festival, Cannes Predictions is the advertising industry’s lead predictor of the biggest ad contenders around the globe each year. Curated by Leo Burnett’s Global Chief Creative Officer, Mark Tutssel, Cannes Predictions is known for its astounding accuracy. Since 1987, 23 out of 24 Grand Prix Awards were included on the Cannes Predictions reel. In 2011 alone, seven Grand Prix winners were included on the reel and work identified by Leo Burnett won 104 Cannes Lions.

Origin:

·  Started by former Leo Burnett leader Donald Gunn in 1987 as a way to bring the Cannes experience to the Leo Burnett community

·  The project began as an employee contest, with participants selecting the top twenty entries he/she believed would win at Cannes

·  The reel is now curated in Chicago under the direction of Global Chief Creative Officer, Mark Tutssel, with advice from Leo Burnett’s global creative network

Distribution:

·  The Cannes Predictions Reel has been distributed annually to network offices for hosting internal and external events—40-50 events each year, with as many as 1,000+ in attendance, including international media

Accuracy:

·  Accuracy of Cannes Predictions: 91% of reel entries are shortlisted at Cannes while 80% of selections take home Lions

·  Over the course of its 25 year history, the Cannes Predictions Reel has only failed to include the Grand Prix twice (one of those years, the prize wasn’t awarded)

Expansion:

·  In 2005, the predictions broadened to keep pace with the industry and moved beyond Film included Cyber, Titanium and Integrated categories

·  In 2010, Cannes Predictions’ first online presence was established as a blog - www.cannespredictions.com - featuring video interviews with top creative, guest posts from journalists and additional potential Lion winners that didn’t make the final cut
