Cancellation and Refund

All cancellations of registration must be made with a letter to the secretary general. No other means of cancellation will be considered. Amount of refund changes with date of cancellation as below. All refunds will be processed after the conference.

Cancellations before September 30, 2001: 50 % refund

Cancellations after October 1, 2001: No refund

Passport and Visa

All visitors must have a valid passport, and some will need a visa. For details, please consult your travel agency or the nearest Japanese Consulate Office. If a visa is necessary, please apply for it as soon as possible since it may take several months in some countries to get a visa.

Transportation

Obihiro is located at 1000 km northeast fromTokyo. All domestic flights from Tokyo to Obihiro depart from Tokyo/Haneda airport. All visitors arrived at Tokyo/Narita airport (most international flights arrive at Narita airport) move to Haneda airport. Limousine bus is available every 20 minutes for Haneda, and will charge about ¥ 3000 (US $25.00). It takes about 70 minutes, but it is depending on the traffic condition. Limousine bus information is located in the first floor of the airport building. Tokachi Plaza is located about 30km north of the Obihiro Airport and just south of Obihiro railway station. Taxi and airport limousine bus are available at the airport to reach Obihiro railway station. The taxi fare from the airport to Tokachi Plaza is about ¥ 6500 (US $55.00), but it varies depending on the traffic condition. Airport limousine bus is also available from the airport to Obihiro railway station and main hotels, and will charge about ¥ 1000 (US $8.00). If you need a help to get to the hotels or Tokachi Plaza from the airport, please make contact with the secretary general.

Currency and Banking

Only Japanese Yen is acceptable at regular stores and restaurants. US dollars may be accepted at limited places such as large hotels. Some banks in Obihiro have currency exchange sections. Banks are open 9:00∼15:00, Monday through Friday. The exchange rate changes daily. As of July2, 2001 the rate is approximately ¥ 124 per US$1.00. Traveler's checks are accepted only at banks and tourist hotels in Obihiro. Credit cards such as VISA Card and Master Card are accepted at any hotels, department stores and restaurants.

Tips

Tipping is not common in Japan.

Household service power is 100V AC, 50Hz inEastern Japan.

Climate

The average temperature in the beginning of November ranges from 14℃during the daytime to –5℃during night time. Visitors are recommended bringing a light coat or a sweater.
