I have booked my vacation! I will be leaving November 1 and traveling from Oakland to Boston on America West Airlines. My hotel room is at the Candlewood Suites, and I am renting a compact car from Hertz.

These arrangements were made through the website www.cheaptickets.com. By purchasing these items as a package, I was able to spend only $982.19. I have $1,017.81 remaining for my meals and activities.

Dear Mom and Dad:

How is everyone doing? I am having a great time in Boston. My flight arrived Sunday evening, so after checking into the hotel I went to the seaport and had a great dinner at Anthony’s Pier 4 restaurant. Anthony’s is right on the waterfront, and the steak and seafood platter was great!

Yesterday I went to the Bull and Finch pub. It’s the bar that served as the model for the one used in the TV show “Cheers”. The menu was pretty much standard “bar food”—burgers, wings, etc.—but they’ve changed the upstairs into a “Cheers” museum. You can see sports memorabilia that was used on the show for the main character Sam “Mayday” Malone, as well as buy souvenirs with the “Cheer” logo on it. I bought you some of the glasses and then had dinner in the pub.

Today I went to the New England Aquarium. The main building is a giant 200,000 gallon tank, and the other displays are built along a ramp that spirals from the bottom of the tank all the way to the top. The tank has more than 2,000 different species of fish and mammals. They also have an “Edge of the Sea” exhibit where you can pick up sea cucumbers, starfish, and horseshoe crabs. Outside the museum there is a display tank with otters and sea lions, and tomorrow I am going to take a whale-watching tour of the harbor.

That’s all for now…I’m off to have dinner. Don’t forget my plane arrives at 3:30 on the 7th!

See you soon,

John Smith
