BIOLOGY CALENDAR

SEMESTER 1, WEEK 10

TOPICS: PHOTOSYNTHESIS AND CELLULAR RESPIRATION

CA State Standards Covered This Week:

1)Students know that mitochondria liberate energy for the work that cells do and that chloroplasts capture sunlight energy for photosynthesis.

2)Students know usable energy is captured from sunlight by chloroplasts and is stored through the synthesis of sugar from carbon dioxide.

3)Students know how chemiosmotic gradients in the mitochondria and chloroplasts store energy for ATP production.

4)Students know the role of the mitochondria in making stored chemical-bond energy available to cells by completing the breakdown of glucose to carbon dioxide.

YOU SHOULD PREPARE FOR A MIDTERM EXAM BY THE END OF NEXT WEEK. THE MAJOR TOPICS ARE BIOCHEMISTRY, CELLS, CELL MEMBRANES INCLUDING DIFFUSION, OSMOSIS, AND ACTIVE TRANSPORT AND PHOTOSYNTHESIS.
