In her later years, she attended First Baptist Church.
She worked for Whitmire & Whitmire, attorneys in town, before she started with
Cooperative Extension in 1960.

4-H Memories of Jean

Miss Jean was never too busy to help someone. She always thought of others before herself. Whether it was getting some one an Ingles Card or paper or feeding Jackson Parks cats, Miss Jean never said she was too busy for anything!
I will miss her very much.
Drue Stinnett, Young Naturalists 4-H Club

Jean always greeted everyone with a smile when they walked into the extension office. She was always willing to be of assistance to me with any 4-H help that I might need. She would always ask about my family and how we were doing and I always enjoyed talking to her about mutual acquaintances that we knew. We also shared our love for the Lord and how He answers prayer and takes care of us. She was one of many godly women that God has blessed me to know through the years. I will miss her.

Ranae Worrell, 4- H Leader and Coach for Judging Teams

Jean was nice! These were the first words to come to mind. She was always friendly and helpful to all of us. She always had candy to share. We were lucky to get to know her.
We will miss her.
Jessica and Brandon Pace, Mountain Lions 4-H Club

She was always there for us.

The Jones Family, Mountain Lions 4H Club

Miss Jean always made me feel special when I came to the Extension office.
She always had time to talk to me with undivided attention.

I will miss her very much.

Michael Williams, Mountain View 4-H Club

Her license plate might have said “Mean Jean,” but she wasn’t mean.

“Meaningful” would be more like it.

Marie Stinnett, 4- H Leader and Advisory Committee Member

Jean Miller consistently surprised me in what a caring person she was. In her job, she had to work with many people every day, yet every time I came in she always remembered my name and was interested in my life. I will always remember her patience, diligence, and the kindness with which she treated everyone met.

Susannah McIlvaine, 4-H Honor Club

Miss Jean was always nice to the kids who came to the Extension Office. One thing that my little brothers, and I’m sure many other people, loved about her, was that she had a candy jar on her desk. If her jar happened to be empty, she would hunt around to find something to give to us. She couldn’t stand the thought of disappointing anyone.

Growing Old

by Ella Wheeler Wilcox

The days grow shorter, and the nights grow longer;

The headstones thicken along the way;

And life grows sadder, but love grows stronger

For those who walk with us day by day.

The tear comes quicker, the laugh comes slower;

The courage is lesser to do and dare;

And the tide of joy in the heart falls lower,

And seldom covers the reefs of care.

But all true things in the world seem truer,

And the better things of earth seem best,

And friends are dearer, as friends are fewer,

And love is all as our sun dips west.

Then let us clasp hands as we walk together,

And let us speak softly in low, sweet tone,

For no man knows on the morrow whether

We two pass on - or but one alone.

After Work

by John Oxenham

Lord, when Thou seest that my work is done,

Let me not linger on,

With failing powers,

Adown the weary hours, -

A workless worker in a world of work.

But, with a word,

Just bid me home,

And I will come

Right gladly, -

Yea, right gladly

Will I come.
