Gainesville, FL February 4, 2005; The University of Florida (UF) and MARKETech, Inc announce a new Web-based service for patients of UF’s College of Medicine needing quick email access to their UF medical records.

The new service allows patients of UF’s Shands Hospital System to complete a Medical Release Authorization form on the Shands Web site, sign the form using CursiveOnLinepatent-pending, MARKETech’s proprietary e-Signature technology that captures a users written signature via the mouse, touch-pad, or stylus, and upload the signed form directly into Shands’ database. The Authorization is processed and the patient’s medical records are emailed to the designated physician much faster than if a form had to be printed, completed, signed, faxed, then imaged into the Shands database.

Form data is uploaded via MARKETech’s FillableForms technology that allows data capture on any PDF document, and saving and/or porting of the data into any database or work-flow.

Susan Blair, University of Florida Privacy Officer said, “This new protocol allows Shands to respond almost immediately to requests for patient records, and opens to us the convenience, speed, and efficiency of email for this purpose. FillableForms eliminates the need for paper-copies, faxing, mailing, and – perhaps most significantly – data imaging and re-entry. CursiveOnLine is our preferred method of e-Signature because it is not only legal and HIPAA-compliant, but the act of signing is culturally significant in all transactions of trust. Because CursiveOnLine requires no additional hardware or software, it is easy and convenient to use from any computer.”

Thomas Lane, CEO of MARKETech said, “We are excited to partner with the University of Florida to bring this first-ever use of CursiveOnLine and FillableForms to the medical industry. The security and efficiency offered by such a model will significantly reduce paperwork, data re-entry, and speed of response.”

The University of Florida is ranked one of the top public universities in the nation.

Shands is the Teaching Hospital, Research, and Clinical arm of UF’s College of Medicine, and operates six separate hospitals in Florida, as well as many freestanding clinics. Shands is consistently ranked as one of the nation’s best teaching and research hospitals.

MARKETech is headquartered in Gainesville, FL.
