MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING OF THE CITY COUNCIL OF THE CITY OF DEERWOOD, CROW WING COUNTY, MN. MAY 5, 2014 6:00 PM
CALL TO ORDER: The meeting was called to order by Mayor Mike Aulie at 6:02 pm.
PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
ROLL CALL: Council members present: Mayor Aulie, Nixon, Richau, and Leonard. Absent: Severson.
MINUTES:
MOTION: A motion was made by Leonard and seconded by Nixon to approve the minutes from the April 21, 2014 regular meeting. All in favor. Motion carried.
CLAIMS: The claims list totaled $10,487.11.
MOTION: A motion was made by Nixon and seconded by Leonard to approve the payment of claims as presented. All in favor. Motion carried.
AMENDMENTS TO THE AGENDA: None.
Steve Stroschein of the Crow Wing County Highway Department was present to again discuss the county wanting to turn County Road 47 over to the City of Deerwood. Stroschein discussed the need for improvements to the sidewalks and making them ADA compliant. He also explained that the county can turn back any road to the city without making any improvements. The county is proposing paying for 50% of the improvements prior to turning the road back, while the city covers the other half of the costs. The Council decided to discuss the matter with staff and get back to Mr. Stroschein with the city’s plans for contribution for the project.
PUBLIC COMMENT: None.
ENGINEER’S REPORT: Chad Katzenberger from SEH was present to report that the draft copy of the Wellhead Protection Plan was ready to be submitted. Katzenberger also reported that the next Comprehensive Plan meeting would be June 9, 2014. Both projects are moving along smoothly.
MAYOR’S REPORT: The Mayor reported that there would be another Police District Meeting on May 6, 2014. He will make a report at the next meeting.
POLICE REPORT: Chief Harry Gottsch presented his written report for the previous month. He also made a request to purchase five bulletproof vests at a cost of $5,578.75. The majority of the cost will be covered by state and federal grants. Approximately $580 will not be covered and a request has been sent to the Deerwood Fire Relief Association to cover the additional cost.

MOTION: A motion was made by Leonard and seconded by Richau to approve the purchase of five bulletproof vests at a cost of $5,578.75. All in favor. Motion carried.
FIRE DEPARTMENT REPORT: Chief John Taylor was unable to attend the meeting. His written report for the prior month was submitted.
GENERAL GOVERNMENT: The City Clerk gave a short report on the training he attended the prior week.
There being no other business to come before the Council, a motion was made by Nixon and seconded by Leonard to adjourn the meeting at 6:38 p.m. All in favor. Motion carried.
