Dear Parents and Guardians,
Welcome back to school! I know that this can be an exciting and stressful time for both students and parents. I wanted to take this opportunity to introduce myself and hopefully opena line of communication that will make your child’s year a successful one. My name is Amy Fetters and I will be your child’s Social Studies teacher for this one short year. I hope that by working together we can make a contribution to his or her learning that may last a lifetime.
This is my eleventh year with the Council Rock School District. I am currently Team Freedom’s Team Leader, a coach, and an enthusiast for our U.S. History curriculum! I am fortunate to have had experiences at both the middle and high school levels here at Council Rock. This eighth grade year is critical in starting that transition from the middle level to high school and I want to help make that transition positive and successful.
Academically we will be focusing on United States History, specifically from the birth of our nation through the conclusion of the Civil War. There will be an emphasis on geography, economics, and the development of government during this time period.
Please come visit us! I hope to make Social Studies interesting and relevant to my students’ everyday lives. Your contribution is an essential part. Please contact me if you would like to be a guest speaker or to send in pictures or artifacts. I encourage you and your child to share any personal experiences, such as travel or family history, which would add to any of the topics that we will be studying in class.
Studentshave receiveda class overview that outlines our year in Social Studies. I encourage you and your child to review and discuss the overview. Your child should be able to clarify the items outlined from our discussion in class. I will make every attempt to keep you informed of upcoming events and projects via our class website (RMS homepage – Staff - Fetters).
I am also writing to ask you for your help. I want to get to know your child as an individual both in and outside of the classroom. Would you help me in this endeavor by taking a moment to write me about your child? How would you describe your child? Is there anything important about your child that you, as a parent, think I should know? What about your child makes you the most proud? What would help me to make this year your child’s best year in Social Studies? You may send this in with your child or email me at .
If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to contact me, I would be happy to hear from you.
Sincerely,
Amy Fetters
