Marion County 4-H Shooting Sports
County Plan
The primary focus of the Mississippi 4-H Shooting Sports program shall be the total development of the young person. The shooting sports and related natural resource activities will be utilized for human growth and development. The Shooting Sports program will be used to attract new audiences and/or to enhance the traditional 4-H club program.
Mississippi 4-H Shooting Sports will follow guidelines established by the National 4-H Shooting Sports Committee. Disciplines offered will include rifle, shotgun, archery, pistol muzzleloading, hunting, wildlife, and management (coordinator).
Mississippi 4-H certified volunteer instructors who are at least 21 years of age, have met all Mississippi 4-H enrollment requirements, and are conducting an approved 4-h program are included in the liability coverage of Mississippi State University.
4-H Mission
The mission of the Extension Service in conducting 4-H Programs is to assist youth in acquiring knowledge, developing life skills, and forming attitudes that will enable them to become self-directing, productive, and contributing members of society.
Program Goals
ü Teach safe and responsible use of sporting equipment to include firearms and archery equipment

ü Be family oriented.
ü Child friendly
ü Reach children of all ages and across socioeconomic backgrounds.
ü Involve at least 75 young people.
ü Teach every disciple that is available on state level.
ü Have 2 certified leaders per discipline.
ü Host at least one multi-county event each year.
ü Encourage members to participate in Hunter Education Classes and the Hunter Education Challenge.
ü Sponsor fund raisers in order to buy supplies and make improvements to range.
Program Administration
The primary responsibility for the Marion County Shooting Sports Program shall be delegated to the Extension Staff member with 4-H responsibilities in Marion County. This staff member will work closely with the Shooting Sports coordinator and the Marion County Field and Stream Association. Final authority, however, rests with the Director of Mississippi 4-H Youth Development Programs.
The county will have one county wide Shooting Sports club, under the direction of a coordinator, who works and plans with the certified coaches. The new year will start the first Saturday of February each year.
Risk Management
Follow state guidelines and procedures for recruiting and enrolling volunteers. Maintain certified volunteers in the Shooting sports program. Maintain a file on certified volunteers. Keep safety foremost at all times. Have an emergency procedures guideline in place that is approved by the County Extension Service.
