Computer Mentors Announces Summer Programs

Computer Mentors Group, Inc. (CMG) will host a two free summer programs for high school aged youth living in the 33605 and 33610 zip codes. Both programs are free and will be hosted at the CMG Training center located at 2802 E. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Blvd., Suite E, Tampa, FL. 33610.

The first program is called Youth Involved In the Neighborhood and is sponsored by Children’s Board of Hillsborough County. Up to 15 youth will be selected from applications currently being collected. The youth will have an opportunity to earn high-end technology products by completing technology products for local non-profit organizations. The youth will also get an opportunity to ear an industry standard certification in a Microsoft Office product. CMG is also currently accepting application technology projects from local non-profit organizations, local pseudo government agencies, and churches. Information technology project examples include web design and development, phone and web app development, videography, and eCommerce – all empowering the kids with skills required to compete in today’s economy while affording local organizations completed projects needed to fulfill their missions.

The program is scheduled to start on June 17 and will run for 4 weeks daily, Monday through Thursday from 1pm to 5pm daily.There will be presentations at the end of the summer and $1,500 is available in prizes for the best summer projects.

The second program is a Youth Entrepreneurship Program. This project based program exposes youth to business concepts framed in attainable steps they can take to bring their big ideas to market. The best class ideas will be awarded seed money to, not only learn about entrepreneurship, but implement their ideas. Class activities will be focused on: Creative problem solving – critical thinking, idea farming and problem solving; Business model generation – building a business plan, collaboration, organizing and planning to follow through; Lean startup execution – applying the scientific method to their business plans, learning to listen to others point of view and adapt their current perceptions into marketable solutions. The class will run throughout the summer on Saturday’s at the CMG main facility. Up to 15 youth will be selected from among applicants.
